He was past of his best against Duran, definitely IMO. I don't think it had anything to do with being intimidated, simply Duran was still very skilled and even so I have Hagler winning alright, no doubt. Antuofermo, well, I have the opinion that it's more about how difficult (that's the word) Vito was than what Hagler didn't do or something, was Vito easy to anyone in his career? All his losses are controversial, close. Jake's jab was good, but I have a difficult time to call him a great jabber or really good on the long range ? What about Jake being out-boxed by Cecil Hudson? He couldn't be past prime by then.
Dude...I started laughing when I read his post had my hands ready to go, then I read your post. Thank you.
Jake had some performances that prove hes human just like Hagler and Tiger did. Thats what makes these matches intriguing to me and difficult to pick. I disagree that Hagler was past his prime at 29. He even admitted he had too much respect for Duran and that Duran was the most skilled guy he ever met at that point. I think it was clear that Duran got in his head. Its a stretch to call all of Antuofermo's losses controversial/close. That being said I dont think Antuofermo was as good as LaMotta. Factor that in with the fact that LaMotta fought much MUCH better competition and, well, put LaMotta in against Vito's guys and see if he doesnt whip all of them outright with the possible exception of Hope and Hagler and Id still make him a favorite to beat Hope.
