LaMotta is not a huge puncher.

Hearns' chin is not as bad as a lot of people think.

Hearns can box brilliantly when he wants to.

LaMotta can take one hell of a digging.

Result: Hearns UD, and quite a wide UD at that. Lamotta will be bringing the fight the whole time, and will have sporadic periods of success, but Tommy will use his physical advantages and boxing skills to out-land LaMotta consistently over the length of the contest.

and Robinson fought him past prime? Robinson fought him at Welterweight and Middleweight during Robinson's prime. Robinson had, and would brook, no excuses for not stopping LaMotta. LaMotta was exceptionally tough.

Steward once said that Tommy's chin is fine, it's his legs that give way. Don't forget, Tommy didn't have the best stamina in history (he was up on the cards against Leonard and all he had to do was run which he couldn't). Jake would keep coming at him while he tired, nicking a few of the later rounds IMO even tho Hearns wins on points either over 12 or 15.

I also posted this on the classic and 1 poster made a good point. Tommy's MotorCity Cobra would win a UD, but his Hitman would get him KO'ed. I think I agree with this. LaMotta wasn't a monster puncher, but he hit hard enough to put Robinson on his arse in his prime

:huh No mate. Hearns had speed and big power, Jake had no defence. Lamotta would get brutally stopped. He had an iron jaw but that doesn't matter! if your taking them big right hands all night long it's a different ball game.

Are you forgetting the guy in your avatar gave him possibly the worst beating in Middleweight title history.

We wouldn't have to put up with these kind of ridiculous threads if it wasn't for that film.

Smashed the **** out of him, but in his autobiography SRR expressed the greatest respect for La Motta - said he won the fight but he didn't "beat" Jake.

If I may quote from his Autobiography....

"I was the Middleweight champion, but I had to share my joy with my respect for Jake..."

"Jake LaMotta hadn't lost. Something had happened to keep him from winning. Jake LaMotta was a gladiator, too, when he wanted to be."

Yep, that sums up how classy Ray was to his opponents. Jake was a great fighter, he would have died in the ring that night.

Ridiculous? Why's that, its just a question. The thread title made it very clear what the post was about, so if you dot like the subject, don't click on the link.

Also, It may surprise you, but I've never actually seen raging bull, although it's on my to-do list

I dunno, there's something about Robert DeNiro playing a boxer that doesn't quiet do it for me. I'll have to give it a go tho, it's a cardinal sin I haven't seen it yet I suppose
