Jake Lamotta said that he was able to diffuse the power of punches by rolling with them. What does this exactly mean? Does he swing his head back just as a punch is connecting? Does anyone have a slow motion GIF of Lamotta rolling with a punch?

Jake Lamotta is 90 years old and still alive which is pretty astounding given that he was said to take many punches and had an aggressive style for a boxer and didn't have good weight control. I think his technique by rolling with punches decreased any brain damage he received greatly.

What do you guys think of Lamotta's rolling with punches and his amazing longevity?

This gif gives a good idea how that works.
    Not a secret technique, really.
Stay fairly loose, roll with the punch (as the thing is called).

Not shoulder rolling but rolling a punch when it hits your head. I know this is an anime but is this it?

Watch from 4:15-4:50 (especially watch 4:39-4:50)

LaMotta describes it as catching a baseball and pulling the mitt away to take some steam from it.

    I know the difference.
In that gif he is rolling with punches as he uses the shoulder roll

Date smashed Ippo up. Martinez then promptly sent him to retirement.

No, Date fought Martinez in a rematch and got beat so bad he retired.

Same thing happened the first time and it took him around 5 years to come back.

Yeah I know about that. If his one heartbreak shot landed with full power it seems like he would have won, but I don't think Martinez would lose to one left hook to the chin.

Do you think the heartbreak shot can be used in real life boxing?

clever defence is the secret to longievity in the Ring, genetics out of it.

however Jake might also have genetic factors too, thicker skull, short muscular neck and of course tough mind. but yes he is a fortunate man to be still alive at well at 90, and not a bad fighter either!

Hell no. There have been hundreds of thousands punches that have been thrown in boxing, and some near the heart.

Never seen the reaction Ippo showed.

_ucken lovely, he could well be among the Top 10 best ever HWs, he's certainly one of mine and one of the greatest fighters in history, Lloyd Marshall another slickster too.

Do you think punching the heart hard enough has some kind of effect maybe stopping it (or for a while)?

Anime  I'm not sure if you're trolling but rolling with a punch is simply moving your head in the direction the punch is going to avoid it or take the edge off it. And yes the Mayweather clip is rolling with the punches, even if he is shoulder rolling.
