Hi, I'm not sure what to make of the portion of Lamotta's career that he spent at light heavyweight after losing to Sugar Ray Robinson

I know he split a pair of bouts with 'Irish' Bob Murphy, and was famously dropped and stopped by Danny Nardico. But everything else beyond that is a mystery

Was he ever close to challenging for the title? Could he have had more success at that weight if he moved up sooner?

he may have gotten a shot if he'd managed to win the 1st Murphy fight (Murphy ended up getting a shot largely on the strength of the LaMotta win).

He was ranked in the Ring's top 5 heading into the Nardico fight, but that dashed any hope of ascending any further.

He actually did fight sporadically @LHW throughout his career - in fact, he turned pro @175 before dropping down to 160. I don't think he would've been substantially more successful than he actually was if he had stayed there, though.
