Met Jake a year Or two ago have a picture with him wish this site allowed posting pics anyway he was difficult to hear at that advanced age I asked him outside of Robinson who was your toughest opponent and he said Cerdan to me. Rip long life. He had good ppl around him in his later years

Good genes. His dad lived to be about 100.

Rip champ. One of my favorites. I just read he died this morning and had stayed up until 1:30am researching his dealings with the mob. Sad coincidence.

    Damn.

It always felt sort of magical that a 90+ year old LaMotta was still alive with us.

He’s seen a great world war, and the invention of the iPhone. One struggles to imagine how one of the toughest fighters, notorious for taking numerous punches on the chin, survived way past the average person.

    RIP Champ.

Think about this for second: When LaMotta was born Johnny Wilson was MW champion. During his lifetime Greb, Walker, Steele, Zale, Hostak et al were crowned champion before WW2 in a division that LaMotta would rule years later. Lamotta lost his title 66 almost 67 years ago. November 14 will be the SEVENTIETH anniversary of his fixed fight with Billy Fox. LaMotta was such a relic (and use that phrase affectionately) the his era was not just from a few generations ago but it was from such a distant past that the sport is almost alien today from the one LaMotta retired from in 1954, 63 years ago.

Even though he was so old its still surprising, somehow I thought he was one of those guys that would keep going. That is one long, interesting life. RIP
