Georges St.Pierre would clearly win by ass **** in the first round easily, because this is a no brainer, but so other in the UFC would. Sanchez, Penn, Alves, Fitch, Kos, hell even Serra and Hughes would beat him up. His ground game is good, but that's all. The guys seem weak, he clearly cant strike, his takedown are average and sloppy, no GnP effective. I would like to see him in the UFC yes, but he wouldnt be in the top opponent in the WW division. He said that he wanted to go to the 185 lbs? Not a good thing for him, he is a highlight KO to happen
And everyone in the UFC can strike. I'm sorry but no one in the Welterweight division bar GSP and Alves can strike for **** really. Sanchez is the only one who comes close but he's not great. Shields would fit in fine and give them all some trouble bar GSP would would like you say ass **** him.
your standard are too high then Jake Shields is worse than the guys i've named apart from Hughes on his feet. Daley was right when he was saying that Shields is HORRIBLE of his feet.
Doesn't mean that those others will beat him in the stand up. He may not have better stand up but theirs isn't all that. What I'm saying is that the whole Welterweight division with the exception of Alves and Penn (and GSP to some extent) will not fight on their feet, they fight on the ground where Jake Shields will be able to hold his own with all but the very best of them. The division has a distinct lack of strikers; most are pretty one dimensional wrestlers or BJJ guys.
Yeah, Shields isn't even close to being top 5. I could name 5 guys in the UFC alone who would trounce him.
He a could beat Koscheck, Sanchez and Fitch. Those are close fights. You a idiots if you think he would just get trashed. None, of those guys stand up is anywere near Paul Daley's, if any of those guy tried to really stand with they would get KOed. He has out wrestled Diego in pure grappling and subbed Fitch. Diego and Fitch aren't killers on there feet. Why is it so clear cut that anyone would think Sheilds would be so outmatched.
Shields has a decent ground game - but his stand up is horrendous. I think you're right on this one, QW.
Yes, he is. He takes people down and subs them. Being well rounded is optional if you are good enough at what you do. Look at Aoki Daley, Nick Thompson, Charuto, Okami, Condit Shields is as good as any WW not named GSP. Shields had an off night last night and still subbed a dangerous fighter, he is a top tier WW. His last fight he submitted Nick Thompson in a minute, he beat Okami a contender for the UFC MW belt, he beat Carlos Condit He might not beat GSP, but thats just because GSP is so damn good, and a style nightmare.
His submissions are good - but I don't like the way he uses his positioning in regards to striking on the ground. Although Shields controlled the majority of the groundfighting in round one - he was throwing these pitty pat punches that were pretty ineffective - then he tried to sit out into an armbar too close to the fence, got rolled. In the five seconds that Daley was on top - he administered more damage with four elbow strikes than Shields had done all round. Perhaps I'm being too harsh on him. He locked the submission in nice and tight the next round so kudos to him.
Negatory. Shields would get the business from a myriad of candidates in the UFC. He's just not that impressive. His ground game offensively and defensively is nothing incredible and we certainly know his standup isn't. He get mashed in from virtually any top 10 dude in the UFC.
Why are you people so brain washed in to thinking fighters outside the UFC suck. Everyone in UFC comes the comes from other promotions, it was the same **** when Anderson Siva was killing guys in Cage Rage.
