Jake's stand up has always been poor, I think that goes with out saying. But his lack of success at getting people down is quite simple. Jack quite literally likes to drag people to the ground, either via a clinch or a trip, the less weigh obviously makes this quite difficult to do this efficiently and the weight cut seems to have drained some of his strength Add to that, he's now in a division where the wrestler is king. In his SF run he faced both Lawler and Daley, guys not known for their TDD, Mayhem who is more than willing to go to the matt, and an exhausted Hendo who is poor on his back. He has now fought very good to great MMA wrestlers in GSP and Ellenburger, a world class Judoka in Akiyama, and a guy with great TDD in Kampman in his UFC run. It's no surprise given the level he's now fighting at he has only completed 10 take downs, and 8 of them came against Martin, a striker. He's now in the strongest wrestling division in MMA, and he is struggling to make his mark at 170
Jake Shields is a superb fighter, if a bit one-dimensional. I've been so disappointed in him since he came to the UFC.
