    Good moment to retire.

No shame in losing to Shakur and no shame losing a close fight (at least for the first half) against a young athlete like Ortiz.

I'm not necessarily saying Herring was a great boxer or the most skilled technician on the planet but he was ALWAYS solid. Put a lot into boxing and a classy guy overall. He compensated the lack of skills with work ethic, determination and committment. His run at 130 was a solid one albeit it wasn't a great weight class back then, Jamel Herring deserves a thread in here and respect to his name.

All the best to Herring and his family, hopefully he has enough money to stay retired. I think he would be a great coach for young guys. Maybe at the Military?

This is good news. Herring seems like the kind of guy who will stay retired and move on to a different phase in his life. Congrats to Jamel on a successful career.

Never really rated him that much if I'm being completely honest but he was a good fighter and he had a fine career and is a proper gent and scholar. Happy retirement, champ.
