Good moment to retire. No shame in losing to Shakur and no shame losing a close fight (at least for the first half) against a young athlete like Ortiz. I'm not necessarily saying Herring was a great boxer or the most skilled technician on the planet but he was ALWAYS solid. Put a lot into boxing and a classy guy overall. He compensated the lack of skills with work ethic, determination and committment. His run at 130 was a solid one albeit it wasn't a great weight class back then, Jamel Herring deserves a thread in here and respect to his name. All the best to Herring and his family, hopefully he has enough money to stay retired. I think he would be a great coach for young guys. Maybe at the Military?
This is good news. Herring seems like the kind of guy who will stay retired and move on to a different phase in his life. Congrats to Jamel on a successful career.
Wish him all the best on his retirement.Perhaps will be best remembered for his win over Carl Frampton
Never really rated him that much if I'm being completely honest but he was a good fighter and he had a fine career and is a proper gent and scholar. Happy retirement, champ.
