    I think Tokyo Douglas refuses to quit and wears down Cooney

    Cooney is too reliant on his left. I can't see him outboxing the quicker Buster.

    I'd pick Cooney by KO. I thought he was really good against Holmes. Probably would have beaten most other heavyweights that night. After Holmes, he fought maybe once a year until he was beaten badly by Spinks. With better management, he could have accomplished so much more.

    I thought if I put the Tokyo version in, then it's an immediate win for Buster. Maybe to some, not a lot of difference which James is in there with Cooney, ie he still beats him.
    But a pre Tucker fight Buster? Is it totally unreasonable to say Cooney beats him to the floor??

    I kinda see this too. The Buster of the Jesse Ferguson fight gets knocked out by Cooney but if he comes in best form he likely prevails

    Not at all. I think that if Jesse Ferguson and Mike White can beat Douglas then so can Gerry Cooney.

    There are different versions of "pre Tucker" Douglas.
    That period spans his rise from journeyman to solid contender.

    Douglas from the Cobb fight onwards defeats Cooney.
