James degale and george groves. Who needs who more?

who would have been better opponnets during his first year as a pro?

 

I'm not saying it's bad, Rob. I'm just saying it's nothing staggering. I do think he needed to be fighting more varied opponents though. He’s only really faced come-forward guys. Piotr’s got no punch, doesn’t have a particularly different style and has already lost to a frankly average fighter in Curtis Stevens.

Just because he’s got 29-1 on his record doesn’t mean he’s a good fighter. He really isn’t. He’s a level below Groves and about the same as Smith.

On a side note it's another Benn Eubank. A very even fight between the 2, and i don't think they need each other at all, not yet anyway.

 

The fact is DeGale hasnt beaten Groves at any level so how does Groves need him?? Degale is a ****, even the loss didn't humble him.

 

I think it's very accurate under the circumstances - so harsh but true. He faced a whole bunch of limited, come forward guys with no power. They were cherry picked to make him look good, not stretch him or develop him. Even Smith was calculated because of his particular style.

Soon as he faced someone who didn't walk right in, he looked baffled and lost.

But, I agree about the second part even though neither are likely to be as good as those two. They shouldn't have been on PPV. DeGale will never be exciting to watch. Little power, ugly ass style, annoying personality.

 

so who would you have matched him with. no comments on tough europeans and americans......actual names please and at what point.

 

Get a life, Rob. I'm not going through all the potential guys available from when DeGale turned pro. I didn't say that he was matched with bad fighters, but he was matched very carefully against guys that would walk right on in. Look at them - not a single boxer, pressure fighter or puncher among them. He's faced one guy that hasn't done that and lost to him.

His next opponent looks back to the old ways too. That's my point. Do you follow? He is learning nothing from these guys.

Fair enough he wants a soft comeback fight, but it shouldn't be for European and nobody should be calling it a step up. It isn't.

 

id say they both need eachother to have a good few years and make a dent in the top ranks, then when the talk of them facing eachother again comes around they will have legitimate reasons for a rematch......

hopefully with a world title on the line and with both lads coming of a string of wins, then it will be an even bigger fight with more at stake, and groves with the chance to go 3-0 and de gale to get his 1st win vs george under the pressure of going down 3-0.

 

well the guy is the european champion, and you better beleive Groves would be fighting him if degale didnt get the opportunity first (and you wouldnt be giving him stick for it)

so who was he facing. its his first 10 fight. nobody fights anyone decent in there first 10 fights anymore!

Frampton, Fury, Groves the only fighers around the same level fight now you could say were matched better then DeGale. and not even that dramaticly.

if they were not boxers, pressure fighters, punchers what were they??? they all looked like pressure fighters to me which is what the majority of lower level british fighters are.

 

Difference is Groves won the fight with DeGale, but I'd still laugh at the fact it's for the Euro belt.

 

by the narrowest margain. I though Groves won 115-113 so don't really have a problem with it.

Booth should have sorted it out a long time ago. infact had it set up with a promoter, tv and the pole before the degale fight....which is what Fwank had done for JD and what made it so easy to make the fight.

 

I wouldn't say either really need the other, there's plenty of options out there for both.

Wanting a rematch with Groves is the least of DeGale's priorities at present, he ought to concentrate on sorting out a few of his weaknesses over the next 12 months.

I think a rematch with Anderson would be a good fight for Groves to take, they'll both be in better form having had time to prepare for each other. I'd fancy Groves pretty strongly in that one because he wouldn't be moving around the ring like a string puppet and will work the body from the first bell.
