i don't think BJS is on anywhere near the kind of cash Gavin and DeGale got. DeGale has at least brought a major a fight. Gavin has done **** all as a pro.
This is what I don't get either. I doubt that offers would have been flooding in from abroad for them, or anything like from other promoters. He gambled on being able to keep Khan and use the PPV money to fund it, but it backfired when Khan decided to leave. Most other countries don't pay their leading amateur stars much more to turn over any more, because the two sports are so different. Look at Deontay Wilder, he's a laughing stock amongst American fans because he's fighting bums and flattening them inside a round every time. Sure, there's more interest in them than any other debutant/novice so there'll be a few quid extra, but when they're on the kind of money that European champions can't get, something's obviously out of kilter.
Are Hayemaker promotions still in business? If so, I always thought that Degale would've been better suited to them. Degale, Haye & Booth all know how to talk themselves up to the high heavens and i always sensed before Degale-Groves that there was at least a mutual respect between the camps (Haye, Booth & Degale).
Can someone educate me on purse bids please? I thought once the purse had been won, it was job done, fight sorted? How can James refuse to fight once purse bids have been won? Thanking you in advance.
Haymaker promotions are no more. Hence Groves's move to "he who cant be named" Plus the amount Haye & Booth ripped into James in the build up to their first fight, i guess his ego wouldnt allow him to work with Booth. Adam Booth is exactly what DeGale needs. He tells you strait, he doesnt shy away from your weaknesses either. Jim McDonnel is nothing more than a cheerleader
I think you need to realise that anything to do with boxing is just made up, they do what they want, whenever they want and with whoever they want. Thats my understanding of the rules! If you can call them rules!
I just saw alot of it as hype to help sell the fight though. At the end of the day, money talks. Im sure if Hayemaker were still active and they offered degale a big enough cheque, he'd have no qualms going jumping ship. As for Jim Mcdonnel... he's just cringeworthy.
Unless you pull a Bob Arum and weasel your way around it ala Konz & Manny. Totally agree, whilst he's limited personality, no fans and an over inflated ego, if he goes out of contract with Fwank, then it's renegotiation of his deal with any new promoter and I'm sure most will take a risk on him. I think he'll probably come good in the end old Chunky Looks like Boxnation is going down the swannie faster then we all even thought it might when they first launched the channel. No doubt Sky will be keen to take advantage of the matter too. Should be an interesting next few weeks :happy
I was seriously considering signing up to boxnation this month as well, February's schedule looks half decent. Suppose I'd better hold off what with the 6 month minimum contract and all!
This'll be 4th date that DeGale has had cancelled then. Hope he goes to Eddie just so I can laugh at Franks column
I wonder if Fwank would even mention it in his column if that happened? I would have thought it would be a bit embarrasing for him to have yet another olympian dropping him like a sack of ****
there is only one promoter he should team up with and thats hennessey, no other promoter can offer him terrestrial tv, what can matchroom offer him. For what everyone thinks of hennessey he hasn't done a bad job with his fighters in the past, froch has made millions down to hennessey getting him a shot for a world title then in to the super six, he got him exposure on bbc, sky, itv and american tv, it is not all down to his new promoter, it is the work over the last 10 years.barker and murray are quite well known as well, if not then the other promoters would not of snapped them up when they had the chance. and now he has fury fighting on channel 5 in front of millions. hearn can only offer fighting in front of thousands on sky, which would you chose, it's not a tough decision is it.
