usually in the uk were not always that opptimistic about british champions moving to wortld level but when a brith title fight is won so convincingly with one guy dominating in such a manner you get the feeling this guy is special. lets not underrestimate smith. he was definatly a decent british champ. he will probably go on to win european honours and maybe even get a title shot some day. but degale completly dismantled him and took him out. when you look at his previous fight you can see how flashy and skilled he is but now he's shown maturity, disipline and the ability to fight for more than 5 rounds. he is definatly a future champ!!!
carl froch didnt beat tony dodson and magee that convincingly! paul smith was better than both of them.
Degale looks the business but shouldn't be thrown into world titles too soon. He should make the fight with Groves. Then take on some established Europeans, Khoren Gevor, Karoly Balzsay or John Paul Mendy. Follow that up with with recognisable world name, Sakio Bika or Edison Miranda and then there are a host of soft world titles there for the taking.
If he keeps improving sky is the limit. Def. needs additional experience before taking on the world, but he's ready for the continental and B level inside 10 fight and in 12 I'd throw him in with Allan Green - I think he's that good.
fUTURE BELLEND YES! AND YES HE WILL BE A WORLD CHAMPION AT SOME STAGE IF GROVES DOESN'T BEAT HIM TO IT
yeah some fighter just have that something extra special. ive written about him about a yea ago. i could see his talent from his second fight. he's such a good attacking fighter and mix that with his movement skill and defence he's got the lot!
The division is stacked but if he is matched up against a Germany based 'champion', he should win a World title in 2-3 years.
What's the story behind the DeGale-Groves rivalry? I'm yet to see a Groves fight but it looks like our posters from the UK are (or were) split who'd win. Is he a top-notch talent too?
:good His defence inside is fantastic, his hand speed is electric and he can bang A future world champion I have no doubt, and America will love his brash cocky deminor A closed mouth doesn't get fed. And Im sure DeGale will go far
They are rivals from their amateur days. Both gobby Londoners who just don't like each other. De Gale beat Groves in the race to get to the Olympics and then went on to win Gold. Although quite talented Groves does not look anywhere near as good as De Gale. He is too reckless and would get KOd if they ever fought. I would say Groves is a Euro level fighter.
Hope he loses his "Ward/Hopkins" act on his way to it. He doesn't need dirty tactics, and shouldn't use it.
I recently interviewed and wrote an article on DeGale just prior to his clash with Smith. I was confident he would win; being in the Echo with that many scousers was kind of bizarre as I was one of very few in his corner. Despite his mouthy nature infront of the camera, he's a pretty decent chap. If anyone is interested, the article is here; http://www.sportsvibe.co.uk/degale-can-see-world-stage-on-the-horizon/ Probably not, but it seemed kind of relevant to the thread as I discuss his credentials as a potential challenger on the world stage. It's just nice that post-Smith, a few others are beginning to recognise those credentials.
