i'll disagree for the time being tho, feel his power is lacking abit, altho for a 9 fight ''novice'' he is abit special

 

Brilliant Display. A long way to go but the development in him has been really good. He still needs to sort his punch form out but i'm really impressed by his work.

Let's face it he never even got out of first gear and when he did he got the stoppage even though it was rather soft he did all he needed to do.

I think he's more mature then people think, i believe he wants it enough to go as far as he wants.

FFS calm down. He beat Paul Smith not Randy Turpin. If you look at the threads from before the fight there was NO ONE (except avid) picking Smith to win. He did what was expected, beat up a guy who wasn't all that. He is a very promising prospect. Im sure he would stop Groves in 6 rounds but to say he would be Britains best yet is crazy.

This is a General Forum kneejerk-type reaction to one fight.

If he looks below average in his next fight the same posters who are licking his balls now will be calling him an overrated bum.

 

I don't agree with all this he needs more power stuff. He won't be the only guy who doesn't really bang that hard at world class level to win a title or two. Unless were talking about bigger things.

I think he will learn to sit on punches the more he goes on. His body is developing into a real professional athlete everytime i see him.

We mostly expected him to win but it's the way he won which is impressive. He handled a guy with sheer ease. The big thing now is his next fight and to see more of his development.

The BN Front Page this week said something like ''has DeGale already outgrown British Opponents?''....it's kinda true...only Groves or Magee are viable and worthwhile fights and i'd see him splatting George for fun and beating Magee in a good solid learning fight.

 

I'm not disagreeing with the impressiveness of the performance against Smith, or with peoples views that he is a potential world champion, or even with those that say he is the hottest prospect in world boxing (see other thread).

But to say, at this point, that he has the potential to be the best ever British fighter is pretty ridiculous.

You need to leave it a few more years before attempting to make that kind of call.

better than jimmy wilde, kid lewis, kid berg, jim driscoll....really, afier beating paul smith in impressive fashion. degale was an olympic gold medalist with **** knows how much experience. hes got all the right moves but the best ever will never be bettered by the standards of today. im not convinced by him yet. also i think its unfair to say that froch is the kind of fighter who cant adapt. i feel he has the attributes to compete in any era. degales durability hasnt been proven yet along with other things
