James DeGale: How would you manage him from this point onwards?

Agree.

You can bet your life, in De Gale's head, this defeat will be more about what De Gale did't do, rather than what Groves did do.

Irony is, De Gale probably lost cause he didn't have a realization of what Groves was good at, simply cause he couldn't bare to give him credit, and that was his undoing at the end of the day.

 

I'd tell Fraudley junior to goto America.

Go get an american trainer, and spend a lot of time over there in the gyms where he is a no one.

Well i think DeGale needs to search inside himself and find out WHY he could not adapt to beat groves tactics was it him or his trainer? but i agree he needs to fight Groves asap as this will be eating him inside. One positive is that Degale is talented and should go all the way to a world title.

 

I definitely think he should change to a more competitive camp

Regardless of his antics and terrible attitude, the guys extremly talented,

However, I fear he's not being pushedhard enough in training, you just have to look at who Groves was sparring, he's been sparring Andre Dirrell, so George was being pushed to the limit every day in sparring, I'm gonna assume there was days he go beat up in sparring, and as we all know, in any walk of life, you learn more from what you do wrong, not what you do right

And I reckon James isn't getting that level of hard training,

Theres nothing like doubt to make a man push himself that little bit harder

If I was James id concentrate on going to a good stable, a stable that has a good mix of middleweights, super-middles and light heavies,

The loss isn't the end of the world for him, if anything it should be an eye opener

He's not got the brainpower to make adjustments. He's an idiot, by all accounts. Groves made him fight that bad fight. He'll never surpass him. Soon as he meets another mobile opponent he'll be ****ed all over.

Complete hype-job.

 

We saw the limits of DeGale's natural ability. I've never gotten all the fuss - he's alright but nothing special. I'm not saying Groves is the next Calzaghe or anything, but he at least showed a willingness. He dared to be great - and DeGale thinks he's entitled to it.

Until he realises he needs to prove his quality he'll never be a world-beater.

 

Fight Magee, make a statement against a decent opponent.

If Degale had pressured Groves more he would have beaten him.

 

I think his problem is mostly with his attitude. He's been given the star treatment and soft fights thanks to his Olympic gold, and went into the Groves fight massively overconfident, did as much as he felt like doing and thought it was his due to win. Get him a different trainer then send him to America or round Europe to fight on undercards against some tough journeymen, where he'll get used to having to fight people who fight back and not getting the red carpet treatment all the time. I think it'll toughen him up, mentality wise, then providing he keeps winning, step him back into title contention.

 

Magee would beat him based on last night. The guy is quality, mixing it with Bute.

 

I think he has ability, but he clearly has flaws, I posted this (below)before the fight, and even though I picked De Gale, I had a feeling this could be his undoing, just wasn't sure Groves was the man to execute it, as his footwork didn't convince me, I felt he would eventually get trapped, or maneuvered into vulnerable positions where De Gale could step in with his aggression. I do agree De Gale does need to get some perspevtive on where he's at in terms of his development, what he's actually achieved thus far, cause as of right now, his opinion of himself doesn't compare to what he's done in his career.

Here is what a freind of mine posted to me about the fight.........

I kept saying all along before that neither were impressive and that still holds. I thought DeGale nicked it 7-5, but I could see Groves winning, no qualms here. Still DeGale was exposed for what we've been saying all along. Crappy jab, no idea what the purpose for a shoulder roll is, and and has very amateurish tendencies. Now we know he can't cut off the ring and needs an opponent stay stand with him, only time he had success. Funny, Groves alluded to the fact that DeGale needs him to 'fight' him in order for DeGale to win. Still, you have to credit Groves though, he feinted a lot and won by keeping busy, whenever he was first he dictating the pace, something I believe you alluded to in your vid on the fight.

 

I agree Magee is decent. But you know styles make fights and all that. Degale won't perform like that again that's for sure. If Degale faced Groves next week I'd have to pick Degale to win.

I think Degale would school Magee, the last thing you want to do is have an imediate reaction.
