to dominate a good b level fighter like smith after only 8 fights to me shows huge potential. im not so sure andre ward even today would outclass him any better. id pick ward to beat degale now but 4 fights time i think the skill and speed of degale would beat ward.

ward is not that special.... he's a very good all round fundamental fighter. he hasnt got the skill or degale! floyeds camp said when degale visted them last year said he's on his way to be at there level. after that fight i see himbeing almost there!

SMH, there is no fighter in the world right now except for maybe Floyd that has the skills Ward does at all three ranges. You understand that DeGale has to show himself against better comp before you say things like this right? I think he looked great, no doubt, especially for his 8th(?) fight but let's see him against someone on the next level before we start comparing him with Ward. Ward has demonstrated a will to win as good as Froch's and skills better than anyone in the division.

BTW was DeGale looking for Roger's services or just to learn some stuff and characteristics from Floyd?

Ward doesn't have blinding speed or ko power but he's a very good overall fighter. He can fight inside or out and is one of these guys that seems like he'll always find a way to win.

I was very impressed with DeGale though and it's encouraging to see him out-classing Smith so early in his career. I'd say he's definitely going to the top but there's no need to hype him like crazy yet.

smith is decent and degale won every round and ko'd him! i dont see wards skill level as that great. he's an amazing inside fighter but not outside!

Uhhh yeah he is. Watch the early rounds versus Kessler and the Bika fight. He has a great and shoulder blocking defense, jabs to the body and head from a distance, counter jabs with great success, and puts combos together pretty well at that range. His footwork is also pretty quick there too- the only guy who I think is faster on the outside is Dirrell. Watch the subtle things. Ward is great at feinting people into position, his ring generalship is astounding for such a young fighter too.

“Andre Ward is the next thing for Bernard Hopkins. I’m going on record telling everyone that’s listening, and I have no promotional relationship with Andre Ward. They’re watching everybody else. They better watch him, period”-Hopkins

Every British fighter that demonstrates a modicum of ability brings out the hopelessly desperate.

Imgaine if us Yanks salivated over every American fighter with an ounce of talent. :-(

    he is unproven!!!!!
his only valid test was against kessler. it can be argued that he used some underhand tactics in that fight. against bika he fought a bad fight, even you have to admit that. if he was a great outside fighter he would of picked him off all night. bika is a one dimensiuonal type fighter. maybe im singing degales praises too soon as he is unproven. but the same should be said for ward. kessler victory was good but green and bika are below par opponants.
ill give you this he's the most versatile guy in boxing. but for me the only thing he does amazing is inside work. if he proves me wrong and dominates for next few yeras ill hold my hands up for sure.
