So Ward is obligated to fight at HW and try to become the HW champion otherwise he's a ducker and deserves to be hated?
Cmon bro, really? What Ward said was merely a fantasy. He said it would have to be the right guy at the right time, GGG issued the challenge to all boxers from 154 to 175 indefinitely , it's a totally different situation here.
I see your point, but regarding Rigo he's been avoided like the plague and it was the best option he had a real superfight for the purists. Rigo is the biggest waste of talent, obviously not just down to himself.
Really. Ward's trainer said he WILL become the HW champion some day, so by your logic he should be held accountable for it.
But hold up when Ward made that statement he was merely a 168 pounder. You'd expect Ward to move up 27 pounds to fight Heavyweights who weigh 230 plus? How the hell is that even fair? And why is it such a dilemma to hold GGG to his word by moving up a measly 15 pounds at best? Plz explain to me how that's the same thing.
Hagler and Golovkin had more in common that meets the eye. Hagler attracted criticism for taking on smaller men in Hearns , Duran and Leonard. There was even talk of Don Curry moving up to meet Hagler in 1986. Hagler like Golovkin walked basically the same weight they fought and both i have no doubt could make 154 lbs if they ever wanted to fight there. Hagler got criticized for not taking on Michael Spinks but his non fight weight would have been 190lbs same weight the LH that critic's want Golovkin to fight.
You don't get it though... Ward would have to move up 27 pounds to fight guys who would still outweigh him by 30 pounds +... GGG IS the big mouth here who said he'd move upto 175, you're way off base here bro.
What's the same thing is fighters talking bold statements about their future. You say GGG can and should fight at 175 because his trainer said so, so I'm following your logic. Since his trainer said he could and would become the HW champion some day, you might as well hold Ward to that promise as well. BTW, I don't think Ward should move up to HW or anything, I'm just pointing out the fact that trainers can make crazy statements about their fighters all the time.
@theanatolian.... I'm going to respectfully disagree here. There's no way you can justify or even equate a 50 pound difference to a 15 pound difference... no way... Ward would be at a huge disadvantage fighting the super heavyweights compared to GGG fighting at LHW, where he wouldn't be that outsized. If you take that comment to heart, you need to reevaluate your position here. I get it you back GGG but the point you're trying to make is absurd. All due respect.
You aint following my logic at all, what GGG said is realistically possible, what Ward said is merely a fantasy, a hope, a dream... you can't compare the two.. I'm sorry...
I'm not saying Ward wouldn't be grossly outsized at HW, I know he would be. I think GGG is too small for 175 and Ward is way too small for HW. Both are unrealistic as far as I'm concerned, obviously more so with Ward moving to heavy. I'm just saying that neither should be held accountable for some bold statement their trainers made in the past.
It's been done before, so It's not really a fantasy. It's unrealistic and a ridicuolusly high expectation, but not a fantasy.
It is fantasy regarded to Ward at this point imo. Maybe in a few years he'd try his luck at CW, but HW I'd highly doubt that would ever happen.. There's no small guys that Ward could cherry pick like Roy did Ruiz.. The HW's now days are huge.
My mind just went off to James Toney(his first fight with Sam Peter was one of my favourites and I'd give that version of Toney a fair chance against Parker) but yeah, given how Toney is doing these days, It's not really a smart idea.
