I personally don't think Booth would have been a great fit tbh, yes he would have improved him but on the flip side I think Adam works well with a certain type of style and imo James Degale's style wouldn't have worked well with that.
Same reason he binned off Charlie Edwards... cares more about trying to make himself a celebrity than a boxer
Only reason I say Booth is that he would not take any playing about whilst in camp and because DeGale hasn’t got that power punch he could only improve with technical training for a specific opponent and I think Booth reads opponents really well.
I didn't think you did consider him a failure, I understood, some people will say he didn't reach his maximum potential and regard that as a failure. Completely agree with you, no disrespect to Jim Mc but it was like DeGale was doing him a favour by letting him train him, I never got the impression Jim Jc called the shots or was the boss in that gym. That's a great shout, Ingle, that sounds like a great fit
Yes the lack of punch is what I was getting at when I said Adam works well with a certain style, Adam likes his boxers to be able to be elusive, stick to the game plan and have that punch power. Maybe he could have got that out of James Degale but I just don't think he would have listened enough or want to take in the advice given.
I just read that Degale has given up his IBF title so he can get bigger fights, he is eyeing Saunders in September and he`ll get toyed with, he`s completely overrated compared to Saunders and Groves.
Failure? Really? That's really harsh. In his boxing career he has won Olympic Gold, British title, European title, Two Time World Champion And in his personal life I'm assuming he is a multi millionaire.. Yet you consider him a "failure"? Come on brother, I can understand you saying something like "his career will always have question marks over it because.." or "He didn't achieve what he should have" But failure?
Audley Harrison was an olympic champ and he was awful, the British title doesn`t mean that much and neither does the European title, world titles are only as good as the person you beat and Degale beat nobodies to win his that`s why he`s giving up his IBF title to get bigger fights, like against Saunders, if he beats Saunders that will go a long way to redeeming his dreadful performance vs Groves.
If you were an amateur what would your goal/dream be? An Olympic Gold medal? If you won Olympic Gold, achieved that goal then what next? Probably long term a World Title? Well DeGale won Olympic Gold, then turned pro and won a British title, then European and he is a two time world champion. I believe DeGale was the first British/English Olympic Gold medalist to win a professional World Title, he has a place in history. What else could he actually achieve? Maybe unify the division? That is extremely difficult now, it's rare, GGG and AJ have been trying but haven't managed to hold all the belts at one time. You are dismissing all DeGales achievements because of one or two poor performances and labelling him a "failure", is that really fair and balanced? He lost by MD to Groves, it was debated, there were many people who believed he won (I didn't) it wasn't a one sided mauling, he wasn't blitzed and you have to remember they were both basically novices, it was Groves 13th fight and DeGales 11th, so you are writing off his career because of one poor performance in his 11th fight. So harsh.
