Prior to winning gold <- (no yt available :conf), how extensive an amateur pedigree did he have?

He looked polished and composed for a guy in his third pro outing. Of course his opponent was overmatched and shitting bricks, but this was clearly not the kid's first rodeo.

In that Olympic win over Correa, however, he looked relatively **** and damn near lost.

Is he all natural talent and confidence or was that an off-day for an otherwise refined student of the game? Is he a product of a particular gym/trainer? Anybody have an amateur record for him?

He was a top amateur but it was a major shock he won Gold. He was probably one of the least fancied, expectations were Bronze at best.

People are still split down the middle on Ol' James. I think people are slowly starting to become believers after his last two outings. In his first he couldn't stop an opponent that was in a shell and people booed his ass. People also think he's arrogant, which contributes to it.

I personally don't think he is, he's confident, but he's like a little kid that is looking for acceptance. I feel bad for him so I have to root for him.

    He's a talent for sure.

DeGale's problem is that every time he fights, he's on the same bill as Frankie Gavin and Billy Jo Saunders and always fights after them. They're also unbeaten and at this stage are winning easily so he's always under pressure before he even steps into the ring.

I didn't like his interview last night. I think he came across as a right cocky twat and that will not do him any good unless he can seriously back it up inside the ropes.

    Time will tell.

    Wrong.

I was one of the few defending him after the first fight.

Yep, I will back TFFP up on this one. Although at first I thought he was doing some sort of Flint type overrating of a fighter :yep

I have to admit, he convinced me last night. Looks a very good prospect for the future..........even if he is a twat.

I thought the booing was very harsh after his first fight. Fighting at a different stage against an opponent that was in a shell, as TFFP said.

I met him at the Khan/Kotelnik weigh-in, seems a nice lad and had time for all the fans who asked for autographs/pictures etc. Although he is arrogant, i do like him as a fighter and just hope he isn't made to eat his words.

He name-dropped ****ing Jade Goody after his first fight which really put me off him, but I enjoyed his body punching last night and think he is the most promising of the three olympians.

It wasn't as bad as Small's, banging on about racial condiments, at least DeGale is trustworthy.
