The big difference I see between Dirrell and DeGale, is the offensive ability. The way DeGale has been putting his punches together since his amateur days, is a thing of beauty. He is an excellent, precise and sharp puncher. He hasn't looked as good as he will yet, because he's primarily a counter puncher and he's being forced to push opponents back because they aren't in his league. Both Dirrell and DeGale have a heavy amateur influence. You could argue that Dirrell would be more suited to the amateur, yet it's clear who was the better in the non-pro ranks. DeGale needs to mature as a pro to reach his full potential but because of how limited Dirrell is and how much the amateur style has influenced him, I think DeGale would beat him right now.
Brave comment considering dirrell was reasonably unknown before the S6. I think you will find degale is an olympic gold medallist and as good an ammeter if not better than dirrel. So really all that separates them is a little time in a sense that dirrell is a little further on with his career. Hence we know a little more about dirrell. Suggesting degale will never reach the heishgts of dirrell is insane in that dirrell hasn't achieved a lot. I do agree that basing any kind of opinion on james degale against a domestic fighter such as paul smith is not realistic. Like I said I don't see much of a defence and the better fighter will punish him.
I understand this opinion, though I don't agree with it. Like I said in my last post, Dirrell has a style which is heavily influenced by amateur boxing and that wouldn't suit him against DeGale, who was a far better amateur. I'm not saying DeGale is already one of the best super middleweights in the world because he isn't. However, Dirrell would be perfect for him which is why it's such a winnable fight even at this stage.
Like I've said, this is a good fight for DeGale because Dirrell fights like he's still an amateur. There's no worries about experience in the pro ranks, which would prevent him from beating seasoned super middles, like Ward, Johnson, Kessler, Bute etc.. The reason Dirrell is a winnable fight is because he doesn't fight like a pro. Amateur vs. amateur, you'd be mad to go against DeGale and that's what the fight would be like.
Would you pick DeGale over Froch now though, because unless you are blind, Dirrell beat Froch. I don't like Dirrell and I am a fan of Froch, but he lost that fight. Froch would destroy DeGale at this stage. Dirrell is too developed for DeGale now, but maybe in a couple of years time.:deal I was still very impressed with him though. Fantastic prospect.
I quite agree the win against Paul Smiths at least as good if not better than the Oganov and Paschall wins For now it may need a few fights though
Dirrell should be banned from the sport of boxing for his faking of a ko and then faking of an injury to get out of the super 6. But anyway Degale's win tonight was better than anything Dirrell OR Ward conjured up after 8 fights, in ten fights or so i think Degale will be at or near the top of the division
how about refreshing us on how you thought the froch v AA fight would turn out you useless sack of ****
