How come you never hear or see from him in the media? Like literally 0 interviews I know he done 1 podcast but it is weird he has never been asked to do punditry for 1 night or ifl have interviewed him or anything?
He was never the most articulate, even early on in his career he could barely string a sentence together. Nobody really liked his personality either, his prefight antics before facing Groves cemented the public opinion of him. He was probably less popular than how Conor Benn is now. Shame though, he had some skill.
He's recently been papped with Groves, think they bumped into each other. Maybe he'll end up on Groves's pod, would be fun
I always found that odd. I can imagine he’s had some punditry offers and turned them down. I’m sure he’s not short of a few quid but I wouldn’t say no to money for old rope.
I remember Hearn used to go on about DeGale making bad choices by not having a regular promoter and doing his own thing near the end. It sounded like sour grapes to be honest, as the Matchroom route would have been a couple of Saturday nights on Sky and then a cash-out world title fight if it was even doable; DeGale did well enough. As for his persona and all that - I thought Groves was a knob for much of his career but his podcast is decent and he's a pretty honest pundit - and never takes himself too seriously; maybe DeGale should just give it a go. Can't be any worse than some of the tubes we see on Boxxer shows.
Did see that as well haha - given there need you would never have thought those two would be having a coffee on the Kings Road but that's one of the things that makes boxing great. Degale seems to shun the limelight these days, fair play to him.... completed boxing, earned a good few quid and got off into the sunset. Would be great to see him on Groves podcast though.....
He's not interested in the limelight. He's always been a fairly private person. Even in his prime, he fought in the US, did his own thing. I respect it. Still gutted we never got to see DeGale-Groves II. The build up and rivalry was fun.
