By watching them perform, and deal with respective opponents. And by watching Hopkins perform around that time, it was apparent that he had as many tricks at his disposal as Rosenbloom did.

Hopkins never fought at heavyweight and his lhvy resume is very thin .Benny Leonard had a great skillset but he wouldn't beat Mickey Walker. Your choice is flawed.

    Wrong example.

The Leonard that had Britton all but beaten stands a damned good chance of beating the Walker that got outpointed by Latzo at 147lbs. Walker was an ATG, but he could run hot and cold...especially against skilled, stylish boxers.

Size isn't really an issue in Hopkins-Braddock. The skill-set employed by the bigger man might be the issue...but I just don't see Braddock being able to pull a Kovalev on the incarnation of X that McGrain has in mind for this fight.

If Loughran beat him the bigger more skilled MWs and SMWs would too. Loughran wasn't any bigger than the SMWs of today.

Taylor outboxes him but may get ko'd late or may win a decision. Calzaghe yes I think he outboxes him to a UD

This is not the light heavyweight version of Braddock that Loughran beat though.

The OP States that the fight is at heavyweight, and that puts these guys in unknown territory.

Modern SMWs typically are around 180 in the ring, so the difference isn't too big

What did Hopkins say after the Kovalev fight?

Something about him being too big and strong.

I know he was as old as methuselah, but you have to question how he would have fared against a 190lb man who was not weight drained.

We arent talking about a natural 190 pounder or a guy who was even a modestly talented boxer. Braddock is one of the poorest hw champions in history and a guy who was beaten at every stage of his career by men worse than hopkins. Id like to hear exactly how braddock is going to beat hopkins. Outbox him? No. Blitz him and knock him out? Id say he wouldnt be able to land well enough on hopkins to hurt him and im not sure he could hurt him or keep him hurt even if he did. Some people claim Lamotta is overrated based on a good movie about his life. Well, jim braddock is WAY overrated based on an ok movie about his life. Ive never seen anything in braddock that would lead me to confidently pick him over any atg from 160 up. If you are slow, lumbering, have two left feet and punch like an amateur you better someone like hopkins suddenly comes down with hysterical blindness because he isnt showing up out of shape, disinterested, distracted, and overconfident like max baer did which is the ONLY reason we are having this discussion.

    Enough.

Trickery is trickery...and while Rosenbloom certainly had his share, so did Hopkins. And the guile that Hopkins displayed during the period of time can certainly compensate for the more straightforward approach employed by a larger Braddock.

I think Hopkins-Braddock probably plays out a bit like the Hopkins-Pascal II fight. Braddock has his moments, and might shake X on occasion...but Hopkins manages to outbox him in enough rounds to win a close UD.

    :hi:
He did beat some great light heavyweights though.

I think you are selling his chances short here.

:-(, If Baer was out of shape, and distracted, disinterested, then that's his fault, and not Jimmys, Braddock simply wanted it more and stepped on the gas late in that fight, and rightfully prevailed...

Hopkins was 0-2 at LHW against Dawson who wasn't even in Braddocks league, and was about 25 lbs lighter, than Braddock would have been, it's easy to see Braddock just mauling Hopkins out of the ring here, and roughing him up, no way Hopkins could have hurt him, when your fighting a man much bigger than you, it tires you out a lot quicker too..
