The Corbett documentary, The Gentleman Prizefighter, is getting a theatrical screening in New York on March 8 at the Tribeca cinema on Varick St.

Before James J Corbett, sport, stage and screen were seen as unworthy for the betterclasses; but this Irishman changed the social values of a nation, and his rags-to-riches story and widespread fame helped create America’s first national hero.
$ 20 includes film & party (Tullamore Dew & Heineken open bar 9-11pm)
Tribeca Cinema (54 Varick St.) Doors 6:30pm

I hope you and Patrick Myler were both interviewed for this documentary.

Yeah, he was interviewed, don't know about Myler.

Why is it "Gentleman"? That's kind of annoying.

Yes, they interviewed me and several others. It is well done and they clearly put a lot of time and effort into it. It lasts about 1 hour 10 minutes.

Looking forward to seeing this. I picked up the Myler book from a discount shop when I was in my teens and it played a big part in launching my subsequent interest in boxing history. This bit of the blurb made me cringe, though :

He wasn't even a bigger hero than the guy he beat for the title......!
