Jeffries talks about why he started boxing and who was the best boxer and fighter he ever saw. Enjoy!

Was he a little punchy in old age?

Hard to tell. His enunciations are clear.
From my observations, people didn't talk as fast on camera as they do today. It seems like it was common for people to take long pauses.

Joe Louis sounds like a faster and sharper talker in the 60's than he was in the 30's.

Jeffries seems pretty old here. I believe he died in the 1950's so he witnessed alot of great fighters so for him to call Fitz the best he saw man thats a helluva statement!

I've seen this one before. I believe sound became part of a film in the 1920's. Judging by the quality here, I'm thinking this was filmed beyond 1930

Just about every historian and boxer of the times held Fitzsimmons in high regard. Hardly a shocker.

True but Jeff also lived through the reigns of men like Harry Greb, Jack Dempsey, Max Schmeling, and by that point possibly even the early part of Joe louis. Still I see your point.

Fighters have a tendency to do that to boost their egos. Like when one is asked who hit them the hardest they'll bring up someone they beat.

Not even a momentary consideration for J Johnson. Surprising.

A funny thing on Greb, you don't see many past greats comment on him relative to his accomplishments. But did you know Greb once quit in a fight?
