Good point mate. If Corbett could do that to Jeff then Conn surely could. I like Billy Conn by decision.
Conn never ran from anyone, and when he hid, he did it inside. That's his downfall here. Conn would get driven out from the inside and lose on the run IMO, get took late. The psychological pressure in this fight would be a disaster even for someone like Billy.
I think he could survive for 15 rds and take a dec,but if he lingers too long in range of Jeff's body smashes he's going down!
He'd have to use his superior speed and lateral movement to keep Jeffries turning and having to reset. Not allowing Jeff to plan his feet and close the gap. Stay light on his feet and circle away from Jeff's power right. Yes, easier said than done, but it's a way to beat him.
Conn could pull the upset using his superior movement and boxing ability to get the decision. If I was a betting man I would make the wager just for the windfall. But, If the Boilermaker gets a hold of him or ties him up, Jeffries will wear him down for the KO in 11 rounds. Jeffries has all the tools to maul Conn in the cliches. I see Jeffries as the solid favorite.
When attacked, Billy Conn had the habit of moving inside, with his head on your chest or shoulder, trying to control your power. This is a terrible way to fight the strength of James J. Jeffries. If Billy stayed outside and boxed he could make Jim look bad for a while, but, sooner or later, Billy would revert to his in close smothering strategy, especially if his bell was rung (which it would be). Then Jim Jeffries would do what Jim Jeffries does. I will go with James J. Jeffries by 10th round KO over Billy Conn, with Conn slightly ahead on the cards after 9 rounds.
Jeff’s body attack would overwhelm Conn, as long as Jim doesn’t plan on being cautious and try to outbox Conn rather than out-fight him of course.
