Well, Langford is a murderous puncher but Jeffries could take a very good punch, was very durable and he preved against Fitz that even ehe best punchers can´t take him out. So, i don´t think Langford would be able to KO Jeffries. Could the opposite happen? Well, Langford was only koed by HArry Wills when he was already past it, so i don´t think Jeffries would do the same. Very hard to pick but i think i go with the olad saying that a great big man always beats a great little man. Jeffries in points.

agreed but i dont think fitz was in the same class of a puncher as langford. fitz was more from bareknuckle style, while langford was more modern.

Langford kayoed big strong fighters like wills and godfrey, i think he could take out jeffries if he landed enough

I dont think so. Jeffries was unable to put away 5'8 sharkey in 45 rounds, was taken the distance by 163lb choynski, and struggled to put away 37 year old 165lb fitzimmons

smart prediction, but i think theres more too it than that. I am kind of on the fence on just how great jeffries was. more a man of his size and supposed greatness, he had an awful lot of trouble putting away men half his size. i dont think foreman liston tyson have that much trouble with 165lbers.

I think jeffries was a great ATHLETE, not to be confused by great "Boxer". I think jeffries would have been a great crossfit decathlon man, but i dont think he possesed the right boxing mind nor possesed natural knack and talent for boxing.

For whatever it is worth Langford said that he could not have beaten Jeffries.

Good, balanced, analysis. Jeff was obviously rather exceptional, but I just don't know exactly where to place him.

ATG middleweight finisher? ill agree with that? Heavyweight, i just dont see how

For the middleweight division, I would say possibly yes.

    ok

thats just the thing, with only 18 career pro bouts he was ALWAYS just a green inexperienced big fella. we dont know how good he was because of it. Too me he should have hung around a few more years. It seems like his whole career he was just a green fighter.

James Jeffries has impressive wins over hank griffin and bob armstrong. both griffin and armstrong were tall capable black fighters. jeffries pro debut win over griffin is the best pro debut out of any HW champ in history. this shows jeffries was perfectly fine with taking on top black fighters of the era. Then why did he not fight jack johnson denver ed martin or sam mcvea? all very dangerous challenges in 1905. Jack Johnson unquestionably should have got a title shot in 1905, jeffires was 29 coming into his peak johnson was experienced and mature enough by 1905 to give jeffries a very tough competitive scrap, it would have been a big draw. this fight should have been made. instead jeffries decided to walk out with his last fight a joke of a contest vs mediocre munroe. Jeffries should have stuck around and proven himself vs johnson mcvea martin it would have told us alot just how good he was.

Jeffries. I pick Jeffries. He's bigger, he's stronger, he's very good at using these advantages. I think he can impress himself upon the smaller man as the fight progresses. I think.

Look I know this will cause some sh-t here but here it goes ...

I don't know if I'd rate Jeffries in my top 25 heavyweights. I do not know where to rate him. I do not know if he was a great or simply (respectively) a Chuvalo or Bonavena type seventy years early ...

Heres what I do know. Sam Langford fought the greatest fighters in the world from lightweight to heavyweight. Everyone agreed he was the hardest hitter they ever fought. He never fought anyone that he could hit that he did not knock out, not Flynn, not Jeannette, not McVey, not Smith, not Wills, no one ... everyone one of them said he was the toughest and hardest puncher they ever fought ...

    Langford by KO ...

From the video I've watched of Langford, he doesn't seem to be the normal pressure fighter from that era. He uses a lot of head movement. He aggressively initiates exchanges, then uses his defense and counters his opponents counters. He is one of the fighters from that time that is truly pleasurable to watch. He makes me think someone made James Toney powerful, aggressive, and less lazy.

Jim Jeffries was a great athlete in his time. He would probably seem like the early 1900's version of the UFC's Brock Lesnar.

I was going to pick Langford when I started typing this, but I may have changed my mind. Jeffries would have been to big and powerful for the smaller guy to win enough of the rounds to take a decision.

I always hate picking fights in favor of these racist *******s that somehow thought it was ok to deny someone a shot based on skin color. I know they were a product of their time, well I say **** their time's product. I try to empathize, but I'm having trouble.

Oh well, at least Johnson got to make example of one of these guys.
