Yes Jeffries had a huge," private collection of film ",which on his death he bequeathed to his most ardent and fanatical fan.
"Johnson maybe a fine fighter,he may be better than the whole Japanese Army, but I will never fight him. When I lose my title it will be to a white man,a man of my own race.I will never take a chance on losing my title to a black man".
You can't say he didn't tell the world!

Jeffries told me himself his left hook was a slap after it was damaged against Sharkey he says he used the bottom of his palm and aimed below the ear he called it the “Sharkey slap” in tribute

I welcomed you back. I don't really talk about other boards. You can leave you agendas behind boards please. You are free to post inaccurate and untrurwtworty opinions of Johnson being world class jabber, highly skilled, and stuff like we don't understand what we are watching when the film is right in front of us. Speaking only for me I find it funny.

I was unaware you can steal anything from the web and said nothing wrong here.

I met Johnson and I find your opinion of him funny do you think Johnson was so bad a boxer? Every boxer of his era disagrees and all the guys just after it the film you have access to isn’t close to vintage Johnson his best work didn’t get recorded

He kind of built the case to hang himself really.

If he had come up with some sort of BS excuse, like most of the fighters who drew the color bar, then there would always be that element of doubt.

As it is he made our task very simple.

And you were old enough to remember it? Johnson died in 1946, how old are you and what do you recall if you don't mind me asking? You must be at least 83 to have recalled meeting him. I take you at your word. What is vintage Johnson? His losses the Choynsiki, Griffin and Hart? Or his numerous draws before becoming champion and two draws ( 1909 and 1913 ) during his championship run? You have me intrigued. If you can add stories of the times that I have not heard or read by all means do so.

I know you're a fan of Big Jeff in particular. Thought you might like this if you haven't seen it already. An old silent film called KID SPEED 1924. Its stars Oliver Hardy of Laurel and Hardy fame. Jeff (about 49 yo) makes an appearance at 7:58 as the local Smithy (channeling Old Bob Fitz perhaps?, ha). Anyway, nice curio footage.

There are a lot of YouTube treatments on the Johnson vs Jeffries fight. I like this one narrated by Harry Carpenter and Reg Gutteridge. The footage is very clear, and it contains less often seen footage of Johnson tossing the medicine ball and sparring (the sparring partner is George Cotton, I think). Definitely seeing a nice jab there from Lil Arthur.

Here is a still photo of Jack squaring off with George Cotton.

Finally, this one doesn't present easily when searching on Johnson but there are some awesome, less often seen clips included - the best part of 45 minutes worth on Johnson with a bit of Jeffries in there also. You might want to turn the sound down at the start, there's a god-awful machine gun like - sound that is akin to Chinese water torture if left on. It also contains the most complete version of the War Bond Rally exhibition footage that I've ever seen. Though the body was well aged by then, Johnson still had that mischievous, youthful glint in his eyes.

I haven't seen this one before and the stunt work is dagnerous, Thanks.

I like the movie ( forget the name of it ) where he plays a gardener that talks to a woman while mowing the grass. He talks about his career which he says started in 1893, and answer a question from the from the lady, " How do you think you would do vs. Joe Louis ? " Jeffries replies, I beat better men than Louis! He also talks briefly about how many fights he had. Here is a list of the movies he was in:

For anybody that is interested, Jeffries met only one French fighter, Leon Albert, a savant boxer. Havent found a fight report yet but Leon was unsuccesful! The Lablahe fight record is hillarious, it comes from a bad OCR event.
