what i find interesting is that it seems like Johnson fights like the fighters of today while Jeffries fought like bareknucklers

I think the unanswered question is

    who wins prime 4 prime?

Jeffries and Johnson? I think Johnson undoubtedly. Johnson had a more evolved style for gloved contact in my opinion combined with great speed.

as far as I know there is no video, so no decisive claims can be made.

Got ya. Johnson just looks like the first modern heavyweight champ.

btw, reading old boxing articles is such b.s, they exaggerate like none other. You would think guys really punched each other out of the arena and caved their faces in, a reason why I think so many fighters with little video coverage become so overrated.

    I can see that.

The thing about Johnson, I think people tend to overrate his boxing skills because they fall in love with his accomplishments. Don't get me wrong, he did some really amazing things, but I'm sure you understand what I'm getting at.

He was Ko'd by a really limited Jess Willard, and had a helluva hard time with a middleweight, and his best win is against a really past prime Jeffries.
