James Kirkland KO'D in 1 round

Personally, i enjoyed Joe Cortez's attempts at dry humping Kirkland after the third knockdown. Don't see enough of that.

 

Cortez was trying to get Kirkland to deep throat him at the end.

Perhaps old Joe trying to make Kirkland feel as though he was back in prison

 

Kirkland has one of the worse chins I've seen...

 

I was shocked with that last night. Kirkland is delusional as **** though. Saying that it was a flash knockdown. You might get away with it once but 3 times in 1round. Come on.

 

ohh so you knew he was a hype job did you , i didnt think was great but i didnt see this coming .


why do people make these claims after the event ?

I knew he'd get bombed out eventually, but whilst seeing the Jap as a decent opponent didn't think he'd cause Krkland any problems, he was there to give him rounds but not be too dangerous.

Turns out he provided neither Kirkland was going down from grazing shots, not sold on his punch resistance....BUT! He fought Vera and Julio, both better punchers than the guy he fought last night. I imagine he has lost some of what made him such a dangerous and exciting fighter a few years back, he looked horrible last night and was badly marked up.

Weekend of upsets it seems, none more enjoyable than Morales going against convention and logical thought by showing us an intelligent effort.

 

I think some you lot didn't see his last fight against Jhon Berrio. He was buzzed in first round...i ain't saying yeah i knew this Japanese fella would but i damn well ain't shocked. James has neglected all the basics that i heard he once had as a youngster to just maraud foward and bang out.

It's exciting but stupid if you chin's not strong enough. He's a warrior though because he wanted to keep going and i give lad props on that.

Coming back?...i really don't know...i think it's about getting back to basics but old habits die hard....is he willing to?.

How old is he now?

Physically he looked horrible IMO. I did see his past fight, getting wobbled by a journeyman is never a good sign....I just didn't think it'd be last night, that's all.

 

Yeah i know what you mean Flea. James looks flabby around side and back that's not the Kirkland pre prison. I think he's lost his major strengths....he did take bombs from Julio....i really don't know with him.

First things first he needs to accept he lost fair and square last night. Then accept that his style of fighting isn't going to work without a little more finesse which he has shown at times. I remember a beautiful Bute like body shot on Vera.

edit: He's 27 now Flea....not sure what can be done. He's not a baby no more.

Lacy, Jacobs and now Kirkland are the Americans stepping these guys up too fast?

Lacy said in the Main Event Podcast just recently that he wasn't ready for Calzaghe at that stage of his career, mind you he at least was a belt holder at his weight and jacobs went down in a title challenge, Kirklands defeat has to be one of the biggest prospect upsets along with Linares

 

I think it's a case of them just not being good enough.

I mean really and truly Kirkland has has enough fights to know better then to fight the way he did against a guy who isn't world class at all.

Jacobs was a case of maybe being to early but then again he had enough fights under belt but was the quality of them bouts good enough? no sadly.

Lacy was a champion and was a proper world champion. I think he's just failing to accept the beating he was given that basically ended him as a fighter it was that crushing mentally.

I think the major problem is the quality of fights as a gradual build up. I think the promoters don't analyze the guys recent fights before making there next ones. I think the promoters are trying to hard to push guys on without letting them grow as men and fighters. Not saying fight journeyman but if you see your guys getting hit hard and regular by a c level fighter then don't put him in with a b level fighter in his next fight if you know he still showing flaws.

In the case of Kirkland i think they were rushing him back to where he was 18 months ago and it's just stupid. If i was his promoter after Berrio fight i would of sat him and trainer down and said ''lets get fit now back down to LMW and lets add things to game because i'm not happy with way your getting hit by a D/C Level fighter''.

I'm all for hard fights with younger fighters as long as you know your man! it's a skill that some promoters haven't learned yet and will have to in long term. Nothing wrong with losing but these lads are crashing to defeat early and easy.
