I just read at B.....Scene that Kirkland is looking at a possible August return. He's entering a halfway house soon and will be allowed to train and fight again. Didn't mention what weight he'd fight at but the article mentioned that he has gotten his weight from 205 to about 175 at Thanksgiving time. Said he'd take a tune up in August than a slightly higher profile fight several months later. If this happens that will be great news for the 154 and 160 pound divisions. Kirkland's a good, tough, and exciting young fighter. Just what those divisions need.
F fighting, Just glad to hear a brother coming home. Jail in Texas...**** thank god that boy still alive.
If true, Kirkland needs to do three things: 1. Drop the weight 2. Get back with his trainer ASAP - train often and consistently 3. Avoid the negative element which got him in trouble If he can do all these things, by late 2010 he will again be a serious contender
This is great news. Glad he's getting out soon. He's an exciting fighter and I thought I'd never see him in the ring again.
I was concerned about the weight. If he was 175 at Thanksgiving, he may be able to get back to 154 after all.
The problem is that, from what I hear, Pops' gym is in an area that's surrounded by that negative element. I did like the way Pops and Wolfe worked with Kirkland, and I'd like to see them stay his trainers, but if he makes the big time, it might behoove him to pay for them to move locations.
Kirklands a real talent cant wait for him to fight again, get the cobwebs out of the way then resume buisness as normal
He would need an extra long training camp to really get his conditioning back, at least 16 weeks. That said, I hope that imprisonment has taught him some life lessons, and I do look foward to his return.
