When Vargas was in his prime, Wolfe was still at the beginning of her pro career...green and getting stopped in her lone defeat. Damn, Vargas' prime was a long time ago.
@ the guy who beat Winky and Bazooka being paired up with the guy who won a war of attrition with freaking El Perro.
I think a younger Fernando Vargas would be at the top of this current LMW division. Don't see anybody being a real serious threat. Cotto's a good fighter, but way overmatched. Kirkland would be out of his depth. Alvarez...no, just no. Lara and Molina would be in the same predicament as the others. If Vargas can hang with Trinidad and defeat Ike Quartey, he shouldn't find himself in too much trouble.
The entire top ten of the 154lb division of 10-11 years ago would go undefeated against today's top ten, or in a cross-era tournament.
Wouldn't dispute that one bit. Wish I wasn't a 9-10 year old kid more interested in Pokemon than boxing back then, because the talent pool at 147/154 was awesome, and they made for some memorable and skillful bouts.
Contrary to the newbs who've only seen Vargas from his bigger fights against the likes of Mosley/De La Hoya/Mayorga,Vargas was a legitimately talented fighter and once regarded as one of the very best young fighter in the sport. Neither James Kirkland or Angulo would have been able to compete against him when he was at his absolute best.Very underrated fighter in regards to his actual in-ring ability these days. The guy(even in this day and age) get's criticized for being in a really, super close fight against a prime Winky Wright for **** sake.
One of the best quotes ever. I was the same way man. 300+ hours on Pokemon Silver back in '99-01... ****. I wish I was more into boxing back then. I always think about that when watching fights in the late 90s or early 2000s today. Then again, even if I was a boxing fan I didn't (and still don't) have HBO or Showtime. Damn it. What could have been eh? :?
