You can't train a Chin. Kirkland is going to get embarrassingly KOed again.

I know but Ishida is a 12 round fighter who has never been stopped. Kirkland is a four round fighter at the moment. add in the height and it can be a problem.

I originally expected Kirkland to be able to pressure Ishida right from the jump (since Rigoberto Alvarez was able to, and Kirkland at his best is a much more unstoppable force than Rigo...even though Kirkland wasn't quite himself in the previous legs of his comeback tour). As it turned out - the height, movement, and sharpness of Ishida just completely left him looking lost...like he didn't even know where to begin. If it's an immediate rematch, it doesn't bode well for him. He's been struggling to get back to his pre-incarceration form throughout his comeback and never really got there...and he's already lost any psychological edge he had with Ishida, so even if he comes out with some vintage stuff and presses in gunning hard and often it's not like Ishida is going to crap his pants and lose his composure. He's going to keep moving and lighting James up with those long arms, getting there first and not giving any chances to hit back.

How does a chin go from good to glass during a short prison stint?

Yup. I think was just as surprised as everyone else he dropped Kirkland. If Ishida does this for 12 rounds Kirkland is in trouble. Was a fan of Kirkland, but his excuses at the end were embarrassing. He better start using his brain and not be so one dimensional. He cant go for the ko all the time.

Right now I definitely favor Ishida if it's happening as soon as July, with nothing in between.

If he took his time and took a couple of tuneups - no stylistic puzzles, just straightforward opponents - James could sharpen up and get back to maybe 80% of his abilities before prison sometime this year (allowing Ishida time to squeeze in another fight to raise his profile, and marinade the rematch a bit). Especially with Wolfe getting his head right and doing some patchwork.

Being about 80% of his old self would make him about par with Rigo Alvarez as a pressure fighter, and therefore closer to 50-50 with Ishida (who, incidentally, got robbed against Alvarez although it was close).
