What do you guys think about James Kirkland? I've seen him fight a few times on Shotime, looks pretty strong, but he really hasn't faced anyone yet.

I wouldn't mind seeing Berto vs. Kirkland. Who would you pick in that fight, I think they are both 21 wins 18 KO's, no losses

From the couple fights I seen of him he seems to be pretty good, I love his last fight that ended in the first round after he was knockdown and came back to stop his oppenent

One of my favorite prospects. Love to watch him fight, love his power and agression. Like any prospect, you never know how far he'll go, but I always tune in when he's on TV.

In boxing you have to be a lil cocky

He's a very good prospect in a competitive sense, and a GREAT prospect for marketing purposes. He'll be popular even after he loses a couple fights.

They'd better match him carefully for now, though, because that face-first style could result in disaster -- and a short career -- if his people aren't careful.

Berto is smaller than Kirkland. James is there to be hit, but you have to wonder how his pressure and relentless punching would affect Berto, especially if Andre were forced backward.

Probably not a good fight for either guy in the immediate future, but down the road it could happen.

No you don't, confidence helps but cockiness, aint the right attitude. Zelenoff was cocky

Boy he's fun to watch but his style could be disastrous as previously mentioned. Every fight is a dangerous one.

I know what you mean, but let's not use Zelenoff when we're discussing real fights and fighters. I've laughed way more than I should have over that whole saga, to be honest, but the line has to be drawn somewhere.

If it was possible to use Zelenoff's "bravado" as part of any rational comparison between him and James Kirkland, I'd be comfortable saying that Kirkland's accomplishments in the ring, compared to Charlie's, should give him the right to drop his dick on Al Bernstein's head. But that wouldn't be right now, would it? It's why Zelenoff and his world is nothing more than a farce.

With that aside though, a balance between confidence and overconfidence is critical, no doubt.

James actually has some defense but being aggressive is his style. He's been training for the fight next week against Albert. He's at the gym almost every day so I get to exchange a few words with him when I'm there working out. Maybe I'll take pics sometime.

    Cool. Thanks for the info.

He just needs to be careful about running at his opponent without giving any movement. He stepped right into the punch that dropped him in his last fight.

Hella fun to watch, though. He's a bright spot in a really shitty division.

I agree with you 100%. If I was taking care of either fighter, this is the last fight I'd want right now for either one. But what a treat it would be to watch right now. I'd have to pick Kirkland only because he looks a little bigger, maybe apears to have more explosive power. We may never know

I would love to see him vs. Angulo or Joe Greene.

If I remember who he is correctly, he is as offensive-minded a fighter as you'll see...I'd say moreso than guys like Hatton. He's like a black Antonio Margarito except with less jabs and more powershots.
