I get the feeling he's a KO waiting to happen. Mark it here. Great action fighter who really brings the heat, but man...that chin is going to let him down. :-( Just watch most of his fights. One fight isn't enough to make an assessment.
Based on what fights? You don't mention any times hes looked wobbly to you. He is quite open at times and can get hit yes but nothings stood out to me about his chin, just his defence.
He got badly wobbled by a 15-8 guy. I just watched the fight, IB is doing a round by round on it too. Man got them baby deer legs for a few seconds there, but the opponent didnt realize and attack.
Man, here's ONE, for example's sake: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JP1ugoEW3kk&feature=player_embedded
Dont even have to go that far, the fight from tonight. That was a total bum and the punch wasnt even that clean and he got all wobbled up.
He didn't seem too bad to me. He seemed off balance the first time and went to put his hand on the floor to steady himself, then couldn't regain it and got dropped. He was straight back up and basically came flying back at his man, who sensed Kirkland was injured and appeared to be wrong. I'm not saying your wrong, I think this is always a good topic with action fighters. Unfortunately I have to catch some Zzz's and can't discuss this any further, I'll have a look over the thread in the morning.
Berrio wobbled him slightly with an overhand right he didn't see coming halfway through the 1st round. Kirkland reached out behind him with his left foot and had a split-second of difficulty aligning it flat with the ground. If you blinked, you'd miss how long he was actually hurt. For two minutes and fifty eight seconds he was just walking through everything Berrio had and smashing him. Likewise, he obviously wasn't too damaged by that KD against Conyers. In both cases he came back and pummeled those guys out pretty quickly. However, down the line he will face someone whose punches are sharper and have more leverage than the likes of Berrio and Conyers. Then, he could have to dig down deep...and quite possibly scrape himself off the canvas more than once. :think
I know. I just watched the fight from tonight against Berrio. Kirkland's legs turned to spaghetti there. Literally. My realization just hit all the way home after tonight, but the writing's been on the wall for a while. Kirkland is a fun fighter to watch, all things considered. He brings the heat in a "kill or be killed" fashion. I can relate to a guy like that, but he will need to protect his chin a bit better, starting now.
I would not recommend that Kirkland hop in there (if you'll excuse the phrase) with someone like Cintron in his first post-layoff step-up, having only tuned up against Ahsandi Gibbs and Jhon Berrio...plus whatever similar opponent is lined up for April 9th...
Yeah. He'd be another KO victim of Maravilla, for sure. I'm a bit amazed he's actually calling him out. All wrong stylistically.
I'm definitely a fan, don't get me wrong. I just see some serious vulnerability here. My opinion is just that of one man. The thread is here for people who disagree with me, to also express those thoughts to the fullest.
