Headlining the Virgin Hotel Theatre in Las Vegas on April 29th. The vacant WBC United States heavyweight title will be at stake. Both men are as of yet undefeated professionally, and both have daunting family legacies to live up to with their fathers having been big punchers that held major belts (Tommy "The Duke" Morrison the WBO in 1993, and Hasim"The Rock" Rahman Sr. the IBF, WBC and lineal in 2001 as well as the WBC again from 2005-06).

Note the careful wording there. :sisi1 If this much is even true, yes, a first ever match between sons of former heavyweight boxing world champions is an historic occasion. Fans of a certain age will remember, however, that we have already seen children of former HW titlists compete in the ring. Laila Amaria Ali vs. Jacqueline Frazier-Lyde has this beat by over two decades; daughters, respectively, of Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier also setting milestones that night as the first pair of women to ever headline a boxing PPV.

Neither has faced aught but dreadful competition prior to each other. The most notable victories for either to date have been:

    • Sam Shewmaker - famous for his appearances in bareknuckle boxing (and with limited success even in that arena with its considerably lower bar and requisite skill level), the 37 year old "Hillbilly Hammer" from the Ozarks managed to rack up five wins in the gloved and sanctioned version of the sport before Witt kayoed him in two rounds.
    • Raymond Andrew Ochieng - the Kenyan glass cannon, nicknamed "King Kong", has scored exactly one vaguely important upset (over Texan prospect David Rodríguez...seven months after Darnell Wilson had already cracked his chin & popped his cherry) but has otherwise been a well-traveled sentient heavy bag, and is currently one loss away from a .500 career record.

This Morrison is a bit taller and long and looks key word looks to have a solid chin. Better than his brother and perhaps the Duke, Tommy Morrison did. Also his stamina seems better than his brothers and his fathers, but of course the power isn't there like Trey of his father.

He also had two draws early in his career that weren't even really steps up in class yet. Granted the first guy was 2-0 and the second a still reasonably positive 7-2-1 as of when he fought them ...but now? Both have losing records of 2-4-2 and 8-10-1 respectively. So the indications are there that he's missing more than just the Duke's power and is very short on boxing skill...whereas Rahman Jr., himself hardly a chip off the ol' Rock in terms of punching power, did fare okay in the amateurs. I say just okay, because he tended to lose when it counted in national tourneys.

Sounds like an event for the thriller. I recognize 1 name on each resume(Ochieng for Rock Jr., Galen Brown for McKenzie), voted for Rahman but Morrison seems like the more viable option, with having a lot more rounds under his belt.

True, but he might / is a better boxer than Trey and probaly takes a better punch and has better stamina. The fights changing power however is not there. R
I get it. He's developing as boxer and doesn't have the power to end it quickly, hence the scorecards. But those draw were early is his pro career and long ago. If he rematches them they won't be close. Rhaman jr should be favored to win but is very much an even match up between undefeated pro's. We need more matches like these.

Interesting fight. Assuming genetic inheritance both are probably packing glass, so it's likely a question of who gets a solid punch in on the other's fragile mandible.

One of Tommys two sons, Kenzie, versus Hasim Rahmans son
Both are still undefeated; this should be interesting
