How does he do? An NCO of mine stationed with me was a big fan in the 80's and was saying how in today's division he would be a title holder. Thoughts?

well he looked very good against tyson despite his trainer telling him a bad showing here and he should hang'em up and everyone thought he'd get sparked. i was impressed. if that guy showed up he could pick a strap up probably, or at least contend for one. not against either klit but he'd have a decent shot.

Tillis would be a belt holder and be elite in today's HW division. He had good skills.

What Pimp said. Tillis was better than Chambers imo.

Although Tillis went the distance against some very good fighters in a stronger era, something tells me that James Tillis, will always be James Tillis, no matter when he fought... I don't see him as being a belt holder or a key player in today's division... He might be a fringe type like a Tony Thompson but that's probably it...

Tyson vs Tillis means absolutely nothing in my opinion... Tyson was 19 years of age, and had less than 20 fights by this point, while Tillis was 27 and had the experience of having faced about 85% of the best fighters who had fought over the previous 6 or 7 years... This was a far cry from the man who KO"d Spinks within seconds in 1988, yet he managed to win just about every round of that fight.... Everett Big foot Martin took a lot of guys the distance too... It didn't mean that he'd be undisputed champion today...

Tillis lost to every decent fighter in the weak 1980's HW division. He was far from elite then, and he'd be far from elite now.

Old ass Maskiev Peter and old Briggs were able to pick up titles, IMO its not too far a stretch to see him beating anyone of the recent HWs not named Klit, Haye or Adamek.

Tillis looked good, but when it came time to step up, he seem to fall short to many times. The same man would do the same in this HW State. VS the Brothers he wouldn't beat them....Have a chance vs David, but again Tillis at times could be KOed fast....He was a strange fighter.

He'd lose to Wlad because of the size difference, Vitali I don't know-not sure what he has left. I can see him outboxing everybody else. People are to quick to call the eighties division weak, for no other reason than it followed the seventies. The current division is a lot crapper overall. Weakest division for a very long time. What's worst is all the ****s who go on about modernt training and nutrition when they're talking about a load of guys who're twenty lbs overweight and can't throw punches for five rounds let alone fifteen.

and the current consensus no.1 was starched in one and a half rounds by Rahman's left overs. Maybe Tillis was "poisoned"

:thumbsup Bingo not to mention that most of the recent guys at the top are in thier mid 30s and have done better now than when they were in thier primes (Maskiav, Briggs, Sanders)
