I feel certain he loses to Spinks. Too good a jab, too high a ring IQ, and too much power. He’s going to have answers and James only really had one way to win … and Spinks was murder on straight-ahead pressure fighters (he outboxed Qawi, but Dwight was more of a counterpuncher who forced the action than a straight-up bulldozer). Maybe he wears down Foster and avoids the big bombs enough, maybe not. The Jerry Martin fight makes me think no, but I also wonder if Scott’s heart was completely in it at that point as he had been taken out of the rankings (or at least wasn’t going to ascend to a title shot if it had to take place in prison) and then denied a furlough to fight for a title in Atlantic City. I think Scott had really convinced himself that they were going to let him fight for a championship and maybe even he would somehow get a pardon or something and go free for being a good example of prison rehab … and that just wasn’t going to happen. Had to take some wind out of his sails. As good as Loughran was, and he was very good, I think this is Scott’s best chance of the three to more or less relentlessly bully him with that wilting body attack the way he did Mustafa. EDIT: Looked at some Loughran film to refresh my memory and I do like Scott’s chances here a good bit. Loughran had a really good jab and was sharp in reflex with good counter-punching skill, but he doesn’t look like much of an in-fighter and Scott’s likely going to find his way inside where I give him a big edge … if he can get there and stay there. And Loughran is not a puncher so that takes that out of the equation pretty much.
I can see him getting the best of Loughran also. Stylistically I just can't see Tommy keeping James off of him especially the version that took Eddie apart. I can also see the same happening to Foster but I still see it 60/40 in favor of Bob. I have Spinks the winner here also but I do think that version of Scott gives Michael a long night.
Will go with the fighter who beat: Lomski, McTigue, Greb, Bear, Uzcudun, Walker, Braddock, Sharkey, Carpentier, Wiggins, and also tangled with, Slattery, Latzo, Tunney, to have enough to handle Scott, just me..... stay safe guys.
Jerry Martin did something to Scott which other fighters hadn't up until that point, and that was take it too him and make him back up and he also wasn't intimidated by the atmosphere. Scott seemed a bit uncomfortable when he was the one on the backfoot, and considering he got dropped pretty heavily by Martin twice. I tend to think that either Foster or Spinks may stop him with one of their bombs.
He dis make a good point in that Scott might have been “past it” by then. At least mentally he might have checked out because he easnt allowed to check out.
That's true but again Scott also had a big advantage fighting in prison, I think the atmosphere may of got to some of fighters. I'm not trying to make excuses and Scott did do very well and props to him. But again Martin made Scott back up which no one else had done up until that point, I think the style of Martin bothered Scott and he didn't like fighting on the back foot, as Scott was always the one bullying his opponents. Yet in this fight he was the one getting bullied by Martin's pressure.
I’ve heard this argument before and at least mentally it could be true to some degree. But in reality let s be clear about this-it cant be any asvantage to be locked up vs being free.
I know it sounds crazy but in a way Scott being locked up was an advantage, because he had no distractions and could soley focus on his training. And as I said boxer or not it must be quite intimidating, for the other fighter to be fighting in a hostile environment like a prison. Now I'm not saying it made any different to the actual outcome of the fights, although Eddie Mustafa didn't seem to turn up in their fight.
As I said I know it sounds crazy but Scott was given a unique chance, and really he had no distractions. And could just put all his time and energy into training and boxing. Its disappointing he was never allowed to fight for the title, although really they can't let a prisoner hold a world title. But the way I see it is why even let him fight Professional fighters in the first place.
