My god, all of Kimbo's opponents get knocked out in every fight! EliteXC is setting up weak chinned fighters for Kimbo to knock down like domino's. That is ok that Kimbo needs some fine tuning and work on his skills, taking easy fights. He is just starting out his career. But then don't claim Kimbo is the next big thing in MMA like EliteXC is doing because he knocked out Bo Cantrell, who has been knocked out like 5 times in a row in one round. Tank Abbott has won one fight since 1998, and that came in 2005. Tank has lost 8 out of his last 9 fights FFS! James Thompson is a human highlight reel of getting KTFO. What are your thoughts on this fight?
Why not Bret Rogers? This is ****ing stupid. Thompson is going to run in like a ****ing baboon and get slept. Thompson is the same type of fighter Kimbo has already faced in his MMA fights, not even a small step up. Gary Shaw sucks.
Looks like they are assuring the public a fun fight to watch on their CBS card. Most won't know who Thompson is and will think that it looks impressive seeing Kimbo knock this big guy out. Definitely isn't going to show us anything new about Kimbo.. but then again he only has a few fights under his belt.
Kimbo should take out Thompson with the first good punch he lands. It would be intresting to see the fight go to the ground. By now Thompson has to know he doesn't have a good chin, and that Kimbo has never been tested on the ground. That is the only chance, he has. Who knows, maybe Kimbo is like Houston Alexander on his back? Alexander looked like a flipped over turtle on the ground.
James Thompson: A man who looks completely bad ass but can't fight worth a damn. I'm sure he will look like an impressive notch on Kimbo's belt to the casual fans. To the rest of us, it's another atsch
This is a good fight in my opinion. Theres also word that Kimbo may be fighting Ron Waterman too. Thompson though limited has a decent pedigree as a capable journeyman of sorts. His been around the block a bit and been in some very entertaining fights. Even though Kimbo is a "street fighter" i think his standup is quite underrated. He has decent head movement and throws compact and short punches. It should be entertaining at least while it lasts.
I was wondering if the rumors of Waterman fighting Kimbo were going to come to fruition - because Waterman might actually be a step up for Kimbo. Waterman should be able to get Kimbo to the ground. Thompson on the other hand - has indeed become (to steal a line from Sabu) the human highlight reel for getting KTFO. I still think Shaw is doing the right thing bringing Kimbo along slowly. No need to throw this guy into the sharks yet. Keep giving him stiffs to knock over and let him get the casual fans excited. Then when they finally make that big match against a live opponent - all of the n00bs will flood the bookies with Kimbo money - and the rest of us can clean up by betting on his opponent. Waterman would be a good next fight for Kimbo as a fighter. I can see the fear that he gets lay and prayed to death, though. This is Shaw's huge bid to make a public impact, and I guess he's going to leave no outcome to question with the match making. Kind of lame, but whatever, typical promoter stuff.
Yeah, nothing wrong with building experiance before taking hard fights. But the Elitexc announcers are hyping Kimbo like the second coming of christ. Although neither one of his opponents had a winnning record and get ko'd badly all the time. 3 months before Bo Cantrell fought Kimbo, Bo lost a fight by 5 second KO. 5 seconds!
At the end of the day Shaw is protecting his fighter making Kimbo some easy money and bringing the guy along slowly. I dont see the problem. At the end of the day its not like Kimbo has the credentials to be a major player or even a quality mainstay in MMA. He made his rep as an internet phenom and a street fighting hard man of sorts. His exciting to watch and brings a good aura to his bouts. If he fights Waterman its good night. Waterman has very good wrestling credentials.Although his striking is a tad cumbersome his strong as an ox and would easily dominate and submit a guy like Kimbo on the mat in under a round. I highly doubt well see Kimbo in the circle against a steroid monster like Ron any time soon.
Actually Thompson is a step up for Kimbo so im not bitching plus its exicting somebodys leaving asleep.
I agree, Thompson is a step up from Cantrell and tank, there is no need to rush him it's only his 3rd fight. Shaw is trying to raise Kimbo's status if he can have another good performance, hopefully James can last longer then Kimbo's last two fights.
Either way it will be a great fight while it lasts. Thompsons striking is suspect and cumbersome because of his size plus his quite chinny. Kimbo can bang we dont really know what his chin is like but his raw. Makes for a great night of entertainment and a top bill!
