Hello all-- Does anyone know if Toney's recent steroid ban will have any effect on his future HOF status? Who votes to put guys in the HOF? Does anyone think that the 'roids will keep Toney out of the HOF or at least keep him out on his first ballot? Since this **** is actually "cheating" the game in the ring, I think there's a shot that it could keep him out all together given the current climate of roids in sports---I think it depends on who actually votes-- JoeyP
He's been busted twice, so who's to say he hasn't been using them his whole career? It puts everything in question, so I say NO hall of fame for Toney.
I agree, but I think he will be included anyway. If the main media runs a story on boxing and illigal drugs and it gets main media like Tour de France... then he will not and if they already had they will have hell to answer. But I believe they are too dumb to even contemplate that scenario so I think he will get in.
If you keep Barry out of the HOF you have to keep just about every player who played in the 90's cause they all were juicing. Barry was just better then them to begin with and already a shoe in for the Hall before he was roiding. :good Also, don't forget that way more pitchers have tested positive then any other position in the game, so what are you going to do about that? Add homeruns and base hits to ball players who played against roided pitching? :hi:
I am firmly against steroids but if you keep one man out for cheating you'll have to do it to them all. Toney has had a HOF career, I think he will get in regardless but it would be nice to see the HOF put their foot down and simply say "NO" to any boxer that's tested positive for illegal substances in their pro careers, period. That said, I'm a bit of a Toney fan and will be glad to see James get accepted.
There's no question that he should be in the hall of fame. Even if he retired before he moved up to HW, he would still deserve to be there. No amount of steroids would give you the skill that he had anyways. Nowadays, he's a fat, disappointing, cheater but oh well.. he'll be remembered for what he did in his prime age/weight classes.
He will be there. 70-6-3 with those million titles in many classes pretty much cement his place. I don´t think too many will even remember his doping tests.
First of all, I'm not saying that James doesn't deserve to be in the HOF. He has had a great career and deserves his place with the other ATG. Here's the point I'm making though. He's the perfect guy for the HOF to make an example of to get a point across. James has been nailed twice now with roids. If you add to the possiblitiy that James has pissed off some at the HOF with all his trash talk, he then becomes a target to make an example out of the guy. Let's say we get close to the James's time to be eligible and then he starts talking trash about the HOF and those on their board of directors and the fighters already there and now you have the perfect time for the HOF to black ball the guy. Added to this, if the current heat about roids gets worse, this could be a good move by the HOF to make a statement that they are trying to clean up the sport. There's an upside as well here--the HOF could avoid any possible embarrassment that James could provide by just being James. All this probably won't happen--but there is a slim chance given James's trash talk. JoeyP
if it was up to me (which we all know it's not). He would never get in. 2 times getting busted is completly unnacceptable and just plain disgracefull. I agree with JoeyP. They should make an example out of him.
