http://espn.go.com/mma/ With about 7:30 left to go in the video (MMA Live), Garrith A. Davis (I probably misspelled his first name) reports that he was informed from the UFC that James Toney is "dragging his feet" in signing the bout agreement with Randy Couture for UFC 118 in August. What does everyone make of this? (I'll edit with specific quotes, I'm finishing up the episode now) Edit - Garrith A. Davis reports, when asked by Jon Anik about any other news in the MMA world he says the following: "Well, I got a little bit of disturbing news when I called UFC for a little bit of a round up this morning was that James Toney, and I wasn't a big fan of him being signed into the UFC, I think it's bad for boxing and it's bad for MMA, is dragging his feet over the bout agreement signing with Randy Couture, which I think is bad news." Interesting...
I'd prefer this TBH. James needs to get down to cruiser in BOXING if he ever wants a chance to be on top again. His MMA dreams are fool hearty at best.
Of course he is, the man doesn't want to be embarrassed, and the more he trains the more he realizes he absolutely will look like a clown. I would never call a guy who has been such a warrior as Toney "afraid" but he clearly doesn't want to be made to look like a fool.
he probably got picked up and dumped on his head by king mo in training and realised what he was getting himself into
as much as a joke this fight will be and as much as toney has no business in the UFC, toney might be trying to negotiate money here and that's why he's not signing right away. he probably figures he's been selling this fight with all his ridiculous crap talk and that the UFC should pay him that way....who knows
Hope he doesnt sign this fight do we really need to risk potential embarrasment with this fight ? Then maybe Couture can fight someone like Machida in an eliminator type fight.
Exactly. It's like the time Brock Lesnar was going to fight Lennox Lewis in a boxing match, like when Mercer was able to beat a former champion MMA fighter in Tim Sylvia. Oh wait, Brock Lesnar would never get in a boxing ring as he does everythign in his power to avoid being hit at all costs. Despite how much money it would make, no MMA fighter would ever dare step in a championship calibur boxing match. James will go through with this. He isn't scared to take punches.
we get it, you bum boxing and have some weird personal vendetta against MMA your **** is getting old, **** off.
Did any of those claim they would? Did they denegrate the sport, insult its fighters, and claim they could win? No, they are reasonable human beings. Toney ran his mouth off, now he has to back it up. He isn't scared of getting hit, he probably isn't scared of getting a limb broken (he probably should be), he is scared of losing, or rather can't accept losing. Brock has a tad more than power by the way. Your argument is ****, none of the MMA fighters mentioned have acted like sub human pieces of **** towards boxing and challenged a boxer to a boxing match. James Toney is just ignorant in the purest sense of the word; he doesn't know very much.
