His prime years were '91-'94. He had a longer prime than Tyson, '87-'89. And he fought and beat better fighters than Tyson. Leonard's prime was '79-'82, the same length as Toney's.

and toney being inconsistent is really exaggerated. his record is 73 and 6, a better ratio than either hopkins or jones. you could say he got gift decisions but he also got robbed on a few occasions. (Peter I, Griffin I, Mccallum I) and i heard he passed out twice trying to make weight for drake thadzi. against roy jones was the only time he was undoubtedly beaten, and even then roy couldn't land many clean shots.

Look ROY JONES JR. BEAT BOTH BERNARD HOPKINS AND JAMES TONEY!

James Toney's wins over McCallum and Nunn are better than any of Hopkins win. Roy Jones wins over Toney, Ruiz and arguably Hopkins are better than any of Bernard's own wins.

Roy Jones win over James Toney is bigger than any of James Toney's own wins for sure.

Top ten between James Toney and Roy Jones.

    1. Roy Jones beating James Toney
    2. James Toney beating Michael Nunn
    3. Roy Jones beating John Ruiz
    4. James Toney beating Mike McCallum
    5. Roy Jones beating Bernard Hopkins
    6. Roy Jones beating Virgil Hill
    7. Roy Jones beating Antonio Tarver
    8. James Toney beating Reggie Johnson
    9. James Toney beating Vasiliy Jirov
    10. Roy Jones beating Montell Griffin

Toney nearly died trying to make weight for Jones and had lose in the region of 76lbs in six weeks if I remember rightly. He was a on a drip to keep him alive the day before.

Toney and Roy plateued and bottomed out.

Bernard has sustained his legacy and greatness for a FAR FAR greater period of time.

To me, Toney had the best resume.Fighting big heavyweights toe to toe only adds to his already great resume.

As for legacy, I have to go with Hopkins. Toney just wasted too many years and was too inconsistent.

Fighting once every couple of years against blown-up little men, old men or amateurish new guns?

    this idiot at it again.

you're partially right this time tho. RJJ over Toney by a mile.

    neither touches Hopkins in legacy.

I highly, highly doubt Toney had to lose 76 ****in pounds in six weeks, did you see Toney's body in the Jones fight? If he had to lose 76 pounds his body definitely would not have looked as good as it did in the Jones fight. I'm sure he had to lose quite a few pounds for sure because we are talking about James Toney, but 76 pounds is ridiculous and i don't believe it at all.

    :rofl hey how's it goin?

So you're saying James Toney was weighing 244 pounds or so in 1994? When he was still fighting around the Super Middleweight division?

James Toney hasn't even weighed that much in any of his heavyweight fights except for his most recent one a few months ago where he was at 257.

It doesn't make sense, i'm sure Toney's camp over exaggerated his weight fluctuations around the time he fought Jones. Toney got thoroughly outclassed by Roy Jones and they needed an excuse. He's had weight problems for like 20 years now.
