I do not see Vitali landing a lot of clean hard shots. Toney will fight small and that will be to his advantage.

The most recent report on the News 24 confirmed that Vitali may face Arreola in October/NOvember with the winner to face James Toney. However, the report goes on that it can be assured that Arreola would be in shape for that time. In addition, the Goossen camp appears somewhat reluctant to make the fight.

As you can see, James Toney is definitely in the mix this time. If Arreola backs out and faces Maskaev, Toney could be Vitali's next opponent in September.

When was the last time you've seen a Toney fight? Sounds like 10 years ago. Nowadays you can't miss Toney, even a slow plodder like Peter who telegraphs his punches found him without too much problems and that was 2 years ago. Add to that that Vitali is usually a pretty accurate puncher and this has a one-sided beatdown Vitali-Peter style written all over it.

I still think Toney has good defense but only when in shape. (see Rahman II fight). I agree however that he has become more hittable with age. He needs to go back to training and work on his defensive skills again.

For the Peter II fight, Toney had no upper body movement because he did too much weight lifting under Billy Banks. In the Oquendo fight, he did not care about defense and was not in tip top shape.

James Toney might be the only option for Klitschko now that Haye has pulled out and Arreola isn't ready.

 Toney is almost 41 years old. It doesn't matter what he does or how much he trains, he isn't improving anymore. The wear-and-tear from over 20 years as a pro and his age have done their part, the reflexes are gone forever. The **** is past it, accept it. He is a non-factor in the HW division and the only thing notable about him nowadays is his delusional trash talking.

Like so many ATG, perhaps he can perform one last more great last effort. The Rahman II fight gives hope.

Also, keep in mind that guys like Archie Moore and Ezzard Charles, who JT wants to emulate, fought well in their 40's.

I could see Vitali Toney happening in LA Staple Center. Vitali wanted Arreola there, maybe it will happen. Who else is there. Im sure they will go down the WBC list and take the highest they can get. But I would love to see Toney get silenced once and for all

Toney's mouth is too big for him to get silenced.

Even if he got stopped in the 2nd round he would still not be silenced.

But he would be humiliated. And after all his trashtalk that would be a good outcome. Plus the additional brain damage will make his muffled speech even more incomprehensible. Hell, it probably wouldn't even resemble human speech at all anymore, it would just sound like background noise such as traffic or the wind. I guess that would be a good outcome too.

He's two years older than Vitali.

    Bring it on.

James Toney vs. Vitali Klitschko would be a great fight! Great press conference as well.
