slightly overrated due to American media hype. people talk about the barkley fight but do not forget the Blade was brutally KO'ed by Benn in one round 3 years before.

A good fighter, a HOFer but no where near being an ATG. At the same level as Eubank, Benn, etc of the time.

He was slick and that gives some people a hard on.

But also he was a drugs cheat and for me that is a no, no.

 

It was the manner he beat Barkley in. If you can't see J.T's skill level is beyond most fighters i think your watching the wrong sport.

 

Skill level (as you call it) is not the be all and end all. Yes he had a slick style and good skills but never an ATG. He did not prove himself as an ATG and to be blunt, he was a cheat.

 

Holyfield with a shoulder injury who couldn't throw a jab and lost a shoutout against ****ing Larry Donald in his next fight.

 

Lights out was natural born. Unfortunately, I dont think he took training as serious as he should have. His run at cruiser to heavy was remarkable steroids or not.

 

Definetly. Ward would beat him however.

 

One of the most skilled AND toughest boxers to ever step into a ring. The last true old-school fighter, and he has a typical old-school record. Yeah, he lost some fights he shouldn't have, but then again he fought more than the other fighters of this era.
He's definitely an ATG, but also an underachiever - had he been more focused and disciplined instead of purely relying on his talent, who knows what he could've been?

 

toney is a deluded, steroid cheating disgrace. he took steroids because he is a cheat. he don't fight off a level playing field, he cheats because he knows he is not good enough without cheating. Toney has been caught cheating only twice but the glaring reality is that he will have taken steroids repeatedly but only caught twice :deal

even in toneys prime, he was only winning life and death split decisions with the likes of dave tiberi, sosa, and johnson

hell, a prime toney could only grab a draw with sanderline williams :rofl

james toney fan boys are so sad on esb that they try and big up wins against a eurobum like jirov and against an iran barkley that had recently lost to nigel benn in one round and then lost to a shot roberto duran at middleweight, thats right - a 37 year old duran fighting at middleweight :deal

toney then got his ass kicked by the likes of thadzi and midget griffin

to make things worse, toney went callin out fighters from the ufc and then embarrassed the whole of boxing by instantly tapping out like a *** :-(

toneys run of fights in the super-middleweight division is perhaps the most embarrassing run of any champion in the history of the sport :yep

toney may have been able to get away with his bull**** in america through the help of ring comic and hbo brainwashing, but the rest of the world are not as ignorant and blinkered when assessing toneys career :deal

 

Had he and Sugar Joe met up, it would've ended poorly for him.

Drugs don't give you ring smarts and reflexes which is what Toney had. If you want to run through "cheats" you have to include names such as: Holyfield, Jones, Resto, Margarito, Pryor, Mosley. Toney isn't the only one and none of those drugs gave him his talents such as craftiness and slickness.
