Cheats get such a big pass in boxing IMO. Fail a drugs test, use illegal hand wraps etc should lead to you being widely discredited, criticized and effectively black balled from the sport. You see it in other sports- life time Olympic bans and such in athletics. Its just not tolerated and nor should it be in boxing. Taking drugs is cheating the fans and your opponent yet a lot of boxing 'fans' seem to not have any problem with it. Boxers who have failed drugs tests are lauded as legends of the sport and drug misdemeanours are brushed under the carpet its ridiculous.
Many athletes do drugs we have to accept that. Yes it's wrong but it's something that won't be eliminated from the sport unfortunately. Your fav fighter is probably juicing right now, we don't know what goes on behing the curtains. I hate to say it but the truth is cheating will stay in boxing. Calzaghe and Leonard for instance probably did drugs before many fights we don't know that. When I say cheating I mean stuff such as roids(mainly) as fouling is not cheating since you're opponent has the right to do it too.
Why do we have to accept it? Thats the whole point boxing (fans, governing bodies etc) are on the whole far too accepting of cheats. There should be more of an effort to try and eliminate it. Margarito gets caught using illegal hand wraps and a couple of fights down the line he gets a big pay day against pacquiao. He shouldn't have been allowed to fight professionally again. And the PED's thing is just as bad- slap on the wrist suspensions and it's all forgotten about in no time. And fighters who have been caught cheating are called ATGs.
There's no way to eliminate it completely, that's why we have to accept it. Who said PEDs are all forgotten about? To this day people still talk about Mosley and Holyfield being affiliated with doping agencies. I understand what you mean and yes it's a shame that Margarito will get another fight against a guy he most likely cheated against in Cotto. Still, cheating will continue to happen and doesn't give one ring smarts or heart.
he was a great fighter with great combos like no one else and counters that are deadly but now he is fat, old and ugly but he still got the trash talking that he had back then
Chris Eubank Michael Watson x2 Lindell Holmes Graciano Rocchigiani Tony Thornton Thulani Malinga Nigel Benn Nigel Benn Gerald McClellan Doug DeWitt Iran Barkley Thulani Malinga Robbie Simms James Toney Mike McCallum Doug DeWitt Iran Barkely Charles Williams Vasilliy Jirov Michael Nunn Evander Holyfield Tim Littles Tony Thornton Merqui Sosa As you can see Toney's resume is much better than Eubank's or Benn's. And I don't know where you dumbasses get the idea that Benn "brutally" KO'ed Barkley in their fight, have you even seen the ****in fight? It's only one round so go on youtube now and watch it, because I know you bitches haven't seen it that's for sure. Good fight while it lasted though, premature stoppage I think. Barkley was really hurting Benn as well, and had him running away.
Yeah but why when there are calls for more stringent drugs testing (and a greater chance of eliminating it) do so many fans not support it. I don't want to open up the whole Mayweather/Pacquiao thing again but it says a lot for general attitude of boxing fans that Pacquiao doesn't get more stick for negotiating cut off dates/ not agreeing to full random drugs testing when he has the chance to and no good reason not to. And the other point- it's shown in this thread that people still regard a proven drugs cheat as a great fighter. It's that sort of attitude that needs to change IMO. I think if you fail a drugs test your achievements are tainted. Look at athletics and Marion Jones- steriod user so all her medals are taken off her and her times whipped off the record books. Boxing should take a similar approach.
There's nothing wrong with asking for tests if it's before a contract is signed and that it's not an excuse just to get out of fighting. If Floyd was so passionate about testing in his comeback he would've asked for JMM to take them. There's no way to determine if a fighter that's an ex-cheat has done drugs previosly so it's an iffy sitution to take their accomplishments away from them. Cheating is everywhere unfortunately. In school some people txt each other answers to tests. Rich people may pay off cops. I could go on.
It was ****ing brutal. The ref stopped it because Barkley was just taking punishment and there was no point to keep going because he would have gotten seriously hurt.
