I think Toney could outslick and exhaust Foreman. George reasonably would not hit much harder then Samuel Peter or Rahman so Toney ain't getting taken out, now while the latter two were not in Georges class they had much better gas tanks. Could Toney survive long enough to take over and dethrone "Young" Foreman?
No Toney can't win. It is a bit unfair, Toney was not a heavyweight. This is a 5ft9 former middleweight who did very well at heavweight (underrated IMO), especially considering his lack of dedication. But not win against the ATG heavweights.
Based on what does Toney lose? I mean Peters and Rahman where equally as strong, powerful and mostly in Peters case aggressive. Now they are not In Georges class per say they had better gas tanks. He ain't taking Toney out, he ain't outlasting him or outfoxing him.
The idea that Foreman was "exhuasted" in Zaire is proper. But what's not maybe taken into account enough is the fact that the 215lb Ali was absolutely blasting Foreman's head off with right hands throughout: This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected Not sure Toney is landing those kind of punches on Foreman.
I don't think Toney would have the feet here to beat George. I think he could go to a decision though.
Add in Ali's size and strength in terms of reach and clinch - Toney's tough, ring savvy and highly skilled, but still a SMW/LHW at best at a natural boxing weight unassisted by 'vitamins' and badly disciplined dietary regimes. Big George is seriously underrated and disrespected around these parts - when did that become a thing?
Think Foreman knocks him out…can’t see a pocket fighter lasting against Foreman. Even great ones. You stand in front of George he’s gonna get u out
Foreman via KO inside 7. Toney gets battered. He was too fat & stationary at HW. As good as his defence was, Foreman will land something, & when he does; it'll hurt. Toney will need to move to win. He also lacks the size, physical strength & punching power to keep Foreman off him. Those little counters rights won't have any effect.
Toney is undoubtedly very durable and very skilled. But despite these facts, I think a two fisted mauling from George Foreman may hand Toney his first stoppage loss. This wouldn’t be like fighting Sam Peter or a 40 year old Evander.
I like Toney here, but I don't think he stands up to the onslaught Foreman unleashed that night. Toney is slick, but I think he gets rezoned for strip mining by the fists of Big George.
