James Toney is a glasshearted Quitter

Really? A glass hearted quitter? Let's look at the facts:
1. Toney, who is a pro BOXER, and at this point is old/ shot/ fat was willing to fight in an MMA cage
2. Not only was he willing to fight in MMA, but he fought an ATG in Randy Couture! He didn't take the route of Kimbo Slice...He actually fought one of the greatest names, and greatest wrestlers in MMA!
3. Saying all that, even watching his match with Couture....How do you say he's a quitter? For the guy to last longer than 10 seconds on the ground with Couture is a testament for ANY BOXER (young, old, fast, skinny, shot, prime, etc). If I remember correctly he lasted like 3 minutes on the ground! Not only that, but he never stopped trying to punch, or fight back...Even though everybody, including himself, knew it was OVER!

I'm not a huge fan of Toney. THe only thing I even vaguley like about him is the entertainment value in him speaking. Honestly though I give the man mad props. How many MMA fighters aren't man enough to fight in a boxing ring (even the ones who say they are going too)? Even if they do, they fight some bum. Same goes for pro boxers who say they'll fight in the cage. Toney's first match is against an ATG and he took his beating like a man. There have been Pro UFC fighters that give up against Couture waaaay more easily than Toney did. Show the man some respect. He actually trained for that match, lost quite a bit of weight compared to where he was, and fought to win.

 

James Toney compiled an enviable record in the boxing ring but like most boxers at age 43 is all but shot. I've never been a fan of Toney and hope Shamrock hands him his second octagon lesson in emphatic style.

 

Shammy only gets thirty seconds on the mat to submit him and if it's not done within that time they restart on the feet.

Every fight where he comes in looking like the Michelin Man, which is to say nearly all of his fights in the last few years.

You've never had a wrestler try and take you down, have you? Let me give you a hint. Unless you're an expert in wrestling yourself you're not stopping it. No ifs, ands or buts about it, you're going to be planted on your ass or feet flying through the air to land on your head or whatever else the guy wanted to do to you. You're ****ed and there is nothing you can do about it. Did you really expect Toney to become an expert in 6 months? That's the equivalent to me becoming a Tyson-esque boxer in 6 months. It's not going to happen.

 

So he doesn't try to win every fight where he comes in extra fat.

The last time Toney looked in remotely decent shape for a big fight was against Holyfield in 2003 when he weighed 217lbs, and beat the **** out of Evander.

Since then he's came in anywhere between 226 and 257 (other than 1 fight in 09 against a guy with a 12-5 record which James won by KO in the 2nd), sometimes looking flabby and overweight, other times looking just ****ing enormous.

In this time period, James's record is 6 wins, 2 losses, 1 draw and 1 no contest.

1 of the 2 losses was a robbery, and the No Contest was due to a failed drug test which Toney protests he knew nothing about after a fight he won with ease.


So, in this time period Toney (despite being ancient, fat, and out of shape) has won most of his fights and performed well against some good solid hw opponents:

- Sam Peter 1 (a clear win for James, would've got him a shot at the WBC title but got screwed)

- Hasim Rahman (draw)

- John Ruiz (emulated Roy Jones by outboxing and outpunching Ruiz, only for it to be turned into an NC, but as people who watched the fight will know, "roids" don't give you the ability to consistently slip punches and land beautiful clean right hand counters throughout the 12 rounds)

- good prospects Rydell Brooker and Dominick Guinn dominated and defeated


James Toney is basically an overweight 40 year old ex-middleweight boxer, and yet he fights natural, heavy-handed heavyweights while giving away significant disadvantages in weight, height, reach, overall size and youth. He NEVER gets stopped, he NEVER gets dominated. He wins more than he loses.

Couture isn't a ***** for not fighting Toney in a boxing match. Couture never talked **** about Toney nor his boxing skills. Toney was the one who after swallowing a mouthful of Burger King slurred his way through a speech about how MMA fighters can't fight worth a **** and that he could smash on all of them. So the UFC gave him his wish. I do give Toney props though for agreeing to fight Couture in his first fight.

Being a Top 10 HW in this generation is absolutely nothing to be proud of and that's exactly why Toney can put up a fight with these guys all the while looking like a walking tub of lard. He's supremely skilled and even with a modicum of effort he can compete with the likes of these jokes.
