The funny thing is that people don't seem to realize that no matter how hard Toney is training, he will never train as hard as one of the most professional fighters in history.

Couture is training properly because he always has, Toney is saying he is training properly, which I doubt, because he is scared.

Couture has access to any training partner or coach he wants, the man can train with anybody he chooses.

Couture knows how to train, Toney has never had to train for an MMA fight.

Even if the two were starting from an equal point, which is obviously not the case, Couture would be miles ahead in terms of preparation come fight time.

Think of them as future victims. It helps to know one day their dumbasses will get choked out of the gene pool.

    :rofl

This guy must be a one man wrecking machine - it is amazing Couture is still even breathing with all the faults he has listed. :-(

Can't wait for Couture to clinch and knee the **** out of the Whale before elbowing him the **** out!

Couture by absolute schooling and I hope it goes to the last with the Whale laying harpooned mid-octagon.

Boxers training routines are much more intense than MMA fighters. I doubt many MMA fighters are up at 5am running several miles. Why do you think most MMA light/heavy and heavyweights gas out all of the time, because they have no cardio because their training is not up to the standard of a boxers.

Toney afraid, one thing JT has never been is afraid.

MMA is known for having some of the most intense training regimens in sports. In fact, I'm pretty sure JT has acknowledged that the training in MMA has been more difficult than boxing.

Boxers would gas harder too if they had to deal with wrestling/ground game.

You obviously don't like MMA, so why are you trying to discuss the merits of one sport over another?

Boxing fights go on for 36 minutes. MMA Championship fights go on for 25.

You have to train different muscles when you're an MMA fighter. You may not have devestating head kicks but you might need to develop the muscles required for wrestling or things like that. You have to balance things depending on your style. Your cardio is going to vary and if you're one of those muscle heavy guys like Brock Lesnar, his cardio is very good but he concentrates more on being explosive. He moves like a freight train in full gear when he shoots for takedowns. But if you get into a clinch and try and keep the guy back, it's going to deplete your stamina. If you throw a **** load of punches and forget to breathe, you're going to get tired. And then go on a quest to vanquish the foe of Lactic Acidosis,

Boxing is fairly set. Core for slipping and moving around, footwork, punching. There's a basic idea behind what you need to develop as a boxer.

I happen to like both sports and it's fairly easy to tell that if you don't apply yourself to one trade, your chances of being that good in another aren't so hot. It doesn't matter if James is afraid or not, if he doesn't train properly for this fight, HE'S going to get mashed. Randy is a veteran and knows what he should probably plan for.

Liddell comparison is a strange one, Chuck has a top level wrestling background and is one of the hardest guys in mma to take down, Toney isn't.

irrelevant. Randy is an MMA fighter. That's his skill set. That's his sport.

Michael Jordan is one of the best basketball players ever but he was a mediocre baseball player. Wasn't his skill set. Wasn't his sport.

It doesn't matter how good Toney used to be and his best was not at heavyweight. If he was still at least at his best weight, he'd be fighting guys like Matt Hughes or Sean Sherk.

    Boxers might, Toney doesn't.

MMA fighters train just as hard; the issue though is quality. Randy is training better because he knows how to train for MMA.

Grappling is a sport that uses up energy more quickly, it's why olympic wrestling matches are shorter than boxing; despite wrestlers being at least as conditioned as boxers.

Im a boxing guy but mma training is also hardcore. The reason why they gas is because their sport is more physically demanding on the largest muscle groups. Try wrestling with someone your own size and strength for a minute and then see if you dont gas.

Try throw punches for 1 minute and you'll gas. Boxers body's usually look in better condition than MMA fighters (obviously there's a few exceptions).
Whatever you say about this fight it is creating a lot of debate and I'm enjoying reading the threads about the fight. Personally I'd love to see Toney get the KO but I dont know how it's going to play out. Tough one to call because Toney may just clip Couture and it could be 'lights out'. Also the post fight interview would be hilarious.

The reason the MMA fighters gas out is partially due to what you just said, but they have no idea how to pace themselves. Thats more of a reason they gas out. Plus they need to learn how to take small breaks during the rds. There are plenty of opportunities to rest during a match. They waste too much energy. Also MMA fighters don't know how to breathe correctly they all breathe through mouths with their mouths wide open. HUffing and puffing.

Not to mention MMA fights only range from only 15 to 25 minutes. Yeah a person would get tired punching for a minute strait, but MMA fighters rarely punch for a full minute strait. Example, Carwin vs Lesnar, he was gassed out after 1 rd. There is no real excuse for that. He gased out because he is all muscle and he depends only on his strenght. First, he should not be gassing out iin 1 rd despite throwing alot of punches, 2 he is a pro he should know how to pace himself, 3 he should know huffing and puffing thru the mouth is not a good way to recover.

MMA fighters need to fight more often than a few times a yr thats the best way to stay in shape and not get rusty. Most boxers fight several times a yr, whats happening now in boxing is not the norm (Mayweather, DelaHoya only fighting part time). Young up and coming fighters fight 10 times a yr. Toney at his best fought as many as 7 or 8 times a yr.

Yes, nobody in the history of the sport, or the history of wrestling, Judo, Sambo, or any other grappling sport has never learned to breath, despite being some of the oldest and most popular sports in the world.

Just think, you could be the worldest greatest trainer by simply teaching them how to breath, possibly even a great fighter.

It couldn't possibly be that the physical demands of grappling are different than those of boxing.

Ignorant, you are the definition of ignorant.

I hear you on that!:good But in terms of the pure talent that Toney has as a fighter with almost unreal instinct.... you gotta give him some added brownie points. Randy should win but Toney is nothing Randy has every dealt with regarding his hands.

James if allowed to fight on his feet and in punching range Randy has a major problem! Toney with 4 oz gloves will touch Randy's body with accurate shots which are debilitating! I can see james winning by stoppage but I also see that on the ground James is out of his element.

i do think he'll impress but won't be able to over come the experience and pedigree Randy brings on the ground. James's chance is to put Randy on the ground before he ends up taking him to the ground.

I see james training and actually being MOTIVATED on this level as a baseline for what to expect. If you expect james to be blown out by Randy....expect something completely different. When James is motivated and prepared there are few who can hang with him. Now all that is needed is to prove it at the end of this month. Lets see how much he's picked up in 6 months.

I wish him well and hope to see him win. But even in loss I think he'll earn his respect.
