Some moron actually made a thread saying James Toney is overrated and not an ATG so ignorance is rampant on ESB (particularly on ESB).
I wont bother making a detailed response to this thread because it does not deserve it. However, if you do not rank James Toney as a HOF and an ATG fighter you are sadly mistaken and will be proven wrong in due time.
Thats what I was thinking. This guy probably just heard of Toney last year. I cant respect anything that he types from here on out.
When you think about fights that happen, you must consider how good the opponent was and how they did against other fighters. Montell griffin may not be remembered by people who do not follow the sport closely, but a prime Griffin was really a pro. He not only beat Toney twice (which some say is debatable), but also in the first fight with Jones he did a really good Job -- he won a lot of rounds and it was a very close and competitive fight. This is against a prime Jones -- his face was busted up. Sure Jones came back and KO'd him in 1 round lol, but still he did good the first time. So don't diminish him as a fighter, he was a really good opponent.
James Toney is great and he'll be in the IBHOF when he's finally done fighting....... However, after his win over John Ruiz in 2005, it has all been just a side-show from that point onward... Still, from 1991 to 2005, that there alone is enough to warrant an enshrinement into the Hall..... Nuff said.....:bbb MR.BILL P.S. I will, however, argue as to if Mike McCallum really belongs in New York.... He was good enough, but, where were all his big / mega fights on PPV, etc..???:yep:shock:
Sumbu Kalambay was a "Flash in the Pan" middleweight champion of the late 80s..... He had a few decent wins, but nothing great...... Jim Toney is WAY above Kalambay..... Christ... MR.BILL
F.O. *******........ Kalambay is NOT a pimple on Toney's ass....... Not even close......... I'm done with you----DICK!!! MR.BILL
