Learn to read between the lines:

 

Toney is a throwback fighter, the learned ability to shoulder roll, powerful throughout every division he was in other than Heavy, and the fact that he was highly competitive at Heavy and a top seeded fighter there for the past 5years, says something about his toughness and will to win.

I personally dont like him as a person, but the fact that he was never knocked out or really hurt by a fighter throughout nearly 20 years of boxing, 70 + fights, is one hell of feat. I think if it wasnt for Toney's weight problem, he would of been Heavyweight champ at least once, and would of stayed in the top 10 for many years.

 

This is perhaps the most ******ed thread I've read to date on ESB. How is James Toney nuthugged, let alone even talked about more than guys like Calzaghe, Mayweather, Cotto, Pavlik and Pacquiao?...also to deny Toney's skill level in the ring is pure stupity. The man won titles in multiple weight classes....and the fact that he can come in the ring grossly out of shape in his late thirties and compete against top ranked heavyweights is a true testament to how tough this guy is and his skill level.....its also a testament to how awful the heavyweight division is today too but you still have to give the man his props.

 

Toney gets props because he's a fighter's fighter. A complete throw-back.

To claim JT is not good or was never good is laughable and completely baseless. Of course JT is a legend in boxing. That isnt even a dispute. His record and consistancy in the ring over 20 yrs not only supports this statment but proves it to be fact.

To imply JT can't fight on the outside is also comdey at its best. Toney likes to fight on the inside but he can and HAS worked well on the outside using the jab to create distance and setting up his opponent for a "one hitter quitter".

James is a master boxer...not just a great inside fighter...that is only one layer to this onion. James has many layers in terms of his over all boxing skill sets.

In his advanced age and UN-Natrual weight class he looses a lot of natrual talent he had when he was able to fight at his normal wieght class. At this weight he is slower, has less power ect....at his age now his reflexes have slowed.

The only thing he has is his skills which is why there hasn't been one guy at HW able to completely dominate him. The 2nd peter fight was the most I ever seen James dominated and he still won rounds.

My point is......your post is transparent bro. Meaning it's easy to see your angle when you are trying to mask it. You don't like james.....not b/c any of the obvious garbage you posted was true, but b/c you just don't like the person he is and how so many fans see what makes james a legend in boxing. Whether you love him or loath him his accomplishments and skills are undeniable.

"Hating" a guy b/c you don't like who he is personality wise and allowing yourself to spew un-truths b/c of it is a "WOMANLY" trait. If you don't like him, fine....but don't go around trying to convince everyone else that what they know and see are just an illusion. You don't give enough credit to ESB members.

 

Nah, Toney is up there, but it has to be Calzaghe first and by far. Guys like Wlad, toney, kessler (incredibly), and cotto are up there of active fighters.

Thanks bro! It's just nuts to think there are these kinds of posts going around like this about tru boxing legends. I don't like Roy Jones that much or Bhop but I can't deny their abilities and what they've done in the ring. Hell...I dont even like watching Bhop all the time, but he deserves respect and a unbiased view in terms of his boxing career. This clown chooses to disrespect and discredit what was earned in the ring and that I feel is unwarranted.
