Just watched Toney-Jirov and thought that was the best version of Toney north of Super-Middleweight. How do you see this fight going?
Roy Jones knocked Toney down with a sucker move he stole from a gamecock. What the hell you think would have happened? Jones would have dominated him and made him look foolish like the first time.
Considering that was one of the best versions of James.. and a slightly faded version of Roy... it'd probably be close. That was really the fight where Jones started his huge decline.. he became gun shy during and after that fight.. his reflexes never came back.. and he was less than half the fighter he was in his prime... scary thing is that was a decade ago.. and he's still fighting.
Agree, Toney looked like a monster against Jirov, but you knew he was going to look good against him as long as he could survive Jirov's body attack. Toney always excelled at fighting super-aggressive guys like Jirov who came right to him. He would just counterpunch them to death. He only had problems with more elusive, faster fighters that he had to look for like Jones. Thinking it would've been the same result as the first Toney/Jones Jr., Roy by UD.
i give toney a much better chance cruiser an above. Jones would always be the favorite though. the ruiz jones was something else so you gottta favor that version of jones. james is my favorite modern fighter
