James Toney mad at Vitali Klitschko

    Goossen said yesterday that the Vitali camp felt the fight would have been too risky. That is why they backed out of the deal.The issue was not money. The german TV RTL wanted the fight, was interested in seeing the fight. There would have also no problem to make the fight in LA.

    Well, I am inclined to believe Goossen. Vitali - Toney is a big fight, certainly bigger than Vitali - Solis. It is also clear that except for Chambers, there is no deserving challenger at the moment.

    Povetkin is just another boring Russian. Atlas said himself a few months ago that he ain't ready for Vitali, needs more fights.This will be Vitali-Arreola all over again, let's give the guy sme time.

    And I don't think his resume is impressive at all. Byrd was totally shot at the time they fought. James held his own against the best over the last 6 years, let's give him the shot, it is just a stylistic interesting matchup.

    Yes it would be interesting to see how their styles interact, but everyone's more worried about Toney's weight than anything else. These same people will say Solis should fight Vitali though its a load of bull. Skillwise Toney is the HW that may be better than the Klits. If he can come in good shape than i think he can win a close one.

    Press conferences are not just promoters..TV kicks in most of the cash and Ideas. RTL does most of the work

    BTW...who cares if the press are happy with the conference. They are there to report not have their asses wipped:yep

    Personally I do not want to see Toney in the ring with Vitaly. Brain damage waiting to happen.

    This isn't 2000, you know. A prime Toney (HW) wouldn't beat the Klitschkos, but he would at least win a few rounds against Vitali, no version of Toney wins more than two rounds against Wladimir. Today Vitali wins a shoutout and Wladimir stops him.

    Today's Toney isn't even a top15 HW anymore - despite the poor state of the HW division. Danny Batchelder and Fres Oquendo - those are the guys who are in though fights against Toney nowadays.

    BTW: I would bet my house on Helenius against Toney.

    :deal James Toney is nothing now - Vlad has only a few fights left and he should not waste one on Toney.

    If you can name someone that has stopped Toney than i'll believe that Wlad can do it. 9.5 times out of 10 Toney can't beat the Klits, but I don't think its because he doesn't have the skill, but because he's out of shape AND OLD. If he stepped up to HW younger and was in better shape I believe he would beat Wlad for sure.

    When did Toney fight a HW being as good as Wlad? I didn't claim that a prime Toney would get stopped - a Toney who had something like footwork. Staying on the ropes (without a high guard) means that he'll tatooed by Wlad's jab and sooner or later the right hand begins to land. Toney may still have a good chin but can he take Wlad's right hand over and over again? I don't think so. Wlad has way more problems against guys with high guards as he's hardly throws hooks or goes to the body.

    Last time Toney seemed to be in shape was against Peter II. We know the result.

    I think Vitali is an easier matchup for him than Wlad. And you know, Vitali is also nearly 40 and not in his prime anymore. Wlad will just keep his distance and fight his cautious style fight under Steward and win a unanimous decision. Vitali on the other hand is more agressive and that will play into James hands.

    I believe Toney can take Vitali into deep waters and cet get to his body. James is an excellant body puncher. Vitali has to be favoured though.
